Haven't seen this one yet, but I am sure it is a staple into each owner of a second hand vehicle ...
These are some of the horrors I've met when taking apart stuff that was not working, or not part of the vehicle originally ... this topic is meant to amuse the experienced, to scare the unwary, and in general to promote despising those creating such works of art ...

you can always evaluate the level of dedication of the diligent P38 owner by forensic examination of the remains of the scuttle panel filter ....

I've never understood what was the purpose of this ...

and finally .... aaah! a classic from one of my favorite characters: the LPG installer! Together with the audio "pro" and the alarm "wizard", the typical LPG installer completes a fantastic trio whose aim in life seems to be only to ruin classic car posterity ... in this particular case, what was the need to drill thru this ... oh well. By the way, using the same cable from the switch I've moved it from "there" to inside the ashtray, without trouble. Despicable people ...

I hate people like that!!

"new brakes" were fitted when i bought it..

Like a moron i only checked the pad i could see through the wheel!!

The inside pad was worn down to such a degree it departed at great velocity out the caliper and onto the M4..

Managed to retrieve it.

I now feel blessed that I only suffer from bits of broken trim where the POs left their trail

Fortunately mine had only been neglected, not bodged.

The Ascot. Why bother removing the old steel brake pipes when you fit copper nickel ones?

Not a P38, or even a Land Rover, but this attempt at fixing damaged cables with a combination of earth sleeving, terminal blocks and bathroom silicon didn't even work properly. And melting the gaiter in the process to top it off wasn't particually helpful either

the pic above resembles the trailer plug on my rover .well there was a plug there they just didn't use it, hacked into it and used those press together clips it was as dodgy as you can get . had to be fixed, so now its soldered.

That mess was causing many problems - doors that wouldn't stay locked, dashboard lights to come on with the brakes, radio not receiving an aerial signal, rear heated screen not working amongest them, and thats just the ones I'd noticed. I ended up chopping that section of the loom out completely and replacing the lot to avoid having to go back in there again soon. A known issue place on the vehicle in question (Ford Galaxy) but that particular hatchet job done by someone prior to my ownership was a particularly bad piece of bodgery.
