Yes gents it's happened...

Driving to the shops, came back out she was sat level...

Drove home and just 2 miles from home i get "EAS FAULT" and she drops on her arse!

all 4 wheels in the arches...

I've taken the compressor out and run a feed to it manually and the outflow of air i can block very easily with my finger..

So thinking the Piston ring is at fault i took the "cylinder head" off and the barrel came off and the O ring is ruined, and the piston ring is concrete hard + it is got loads of play between the piston seal and barrel.

If it came out like that I'm not surprised the O ring is ruined, the barrel is upside down! The flat side goes on the bottom and the side with the step goes into the top to bear against the O ring.

As for a cable, it depends what laptop you intend using it with. Ideally you want something really old and low spec with a serial port so you don't have to use a serial/USB adapter. If you do need to use a USB adapter make sure you get one with an FTDI chipset or it will be constantly dropping the connection.

I put the barrel in upside down in a rush to demonstrate the gap between the piston ring and bore, it's hard to see though!!

Are X8R still shipping? If not, I have a kit I was planning to use to refurb a back-up EAS block and compressor...

I made my own cable up using an OBD plug and a 9 pin serial plug off something else.

You can from http://www.rswsolutions.com/index.php/p38a-eas-unlock-videos/167-range-rover-p38a-making-the-eas-serial-cable but if you don't have a spare OBD plug laying around, it's cheaper to buy a ready made cable than it is to buy just the plug.
