6.6 from completely dry but that includes the oil cooler and it's hoses. After a drain and filter change you'll be looking at between 5 and 5.5 litres.
Brilliant thats exactly where we are at around 5.5
Oil change went nicely
Changed pollen filters which has 2 years worth of debris and leafs.
Some have managed to fall in to the fans and you can now hear them. Whats the easiest way to remove them out. Is it from the inside now ?
also the idle still seems a bit up and down.
Between 600 and 750 and back down again. Not irratic or violent unstable. But perhaps every 5 seconds.
I changed the idle air control valve. Just wondering what else to go for. MAF maybe ?

Sounds like a vacuum leak, Not sure what the breathers are like on the GEMS, but the ones from the top of the rocker covers can split on the Thor. Easy to check for though (check around the ends as they can split around the bits where the clamps go and leak without it being very visible).
There's also a thin vacuum pipe to the fuel pressure regulator tucked away under the bracket for the throttle cable. That often gets missed and can split at the end.
I learnt something new last night while reading the owners manual.
You're supposed to check oil level with engine hot.
Never known that before
The hose coming out the top of the rocket cover on the gems near the fuel filler. Should that hose have hose clips on?
Il check the other other vacuum pipe aswell.
Thank you.
If you mean the one on the opposite side to the throttle body, no. Then there's the one from the other rocker cover into the throttle body, that often goes all squishy and horrible as well as the little one that is hidden..

Erm, What owners manual were you reading? This is from the 2000/2001 owners manual - 3rd edition:
ENGINE OIL LEVEL CHECK & TOP-UP
Check the oil level at least every 400 km
(250 miles) when the engine is COLD and with
the vehicle resting on level ground, as follows:
- Withdraw the dipstick and wipe the blade
clean.- Fully reinsert the dipstick and withdraw
again to check the level, which should
NEVER be allowed to fall below the lower
mark on the dipstick.- To top-up, unscrew the oil filler cap and
add oil to maintain the level between the
UPPER and LOWER marks on the dipstick.
DO NOT OVERFILL!NOTE: If it is necessary to check the oil level
when the engine is hot, switch off the engine
and let the vehicle stand for five minutes to
allow the oil to drain back into the sump. Then
follow the procedure already described
I've always checked when cold, it is the only way in my opinion..
Unless it has a Wankel motor in it lol
You mentioned leaves dropped into fans while doing pollen filters ---- you got no choice but remove fans ---- doesn't take long to remove glovebox and plastic pipe other side pretty much the same ---- I did exactly the same 🙄 ----- nobody else mentioned that so hope you get it all sorted out soon 👍
cheers symes.
Il give that a go buddy. Thank you
Vacuum cleaner down the hole where the pollen filter goes or just whack the fans on flat out so it chops the leaves into little bits.
marvellous. More fun to have

1996
Obviously a diesel thing, but it does say to leave it for 5 minutes for the oil to all drain back to the sump. I can't see it will make much difference to the level hot or cold.

No, specifically the v8!
Look at the top above first paragraph
Did you get that diesel p38?
