It's self quarantine. A proportion of people get follow up calls and checks, but it's mainly self policed. Which is a bit bonkers IMO but there you go!

Yeah, I would be curious about that one as well ... here in the southern latitudes the tendency is to quarantine you regardless, unfortunately.

You have a functioning government, It should be fairly clear ours is somewhat lacking in the functionality dept at the present time!.

That's right, it relies on you having a conscience and self isolating. Rumour has it that one or two people have had a phone call asking if they are staying at home but I don't want to take the piss and say I didn't stop but did. the actual wording on the Government is that you must quarantine if you get out of the car, mix with other people and get back in again. I wasn't sure if filling with fuel and going into the filling station to pay for it would be mixing with other people but I suppose it would depend on how many people are in there and how close you get to them. However, if I don't stop at all, then there's no argument and if anyone wanted proof that I didn't stop I would ask them to prove I did.....

Anyway, now up to a total of 1538 miles since leaving home and am currently being supplied with large quantities of alcohol by my partner's father......

A nice little trip there, Richard.

With our average speed in Manila, it would take almost exactly a month of solid driving, with no pee stops, to complete that!

I got stopped here the other week for not wearing a mask in the car, only a few days after someone in the government was saying to use common sense and wear them only when necessary. He didn't like it when I pointed out that I was merely out for a run and had, until he pulled me, no intention of interacting with another soul. His mate saw sense though.

It's not the "law/guidance" it's how a particular muppet interprets it!

They will if everything is done properly. If you look after the car it will look after you and don't ignore any little noises or feelings that something isn't right, deal with it before it becomes serious.

and don't use Britpart bits.....

Don't forget, that's miles too, so not far short of 650,000 kms......

I've got that already: miles, not just whimsy Km ;-)
deeply impressed!
Role model maintenance ... but britpart door fasteners are OK? #scnr
could not agree more, let's write a Zen and the Art of Range P38 maintenance (for the non-initiated, there's a book called "Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance", definitely worth reading it You love both philosophy and technics as well, even if it states in the preface its not about that topics either ...
I think that's called preemptive maintenance in english?

I've used Britpart non-critical parts so door fasteners should be OK. I could have bought a set of Britpart front brake calliper seals for £3, but when you can get TRW ones for £6, why risk it? I've got a Britpart washer nozzle and even that doesn't work properly, instead of two nice jets of water it sprays water all over the place......

No so much preemptive (or preventative maintenance is the term we would normally use), but catching things before they become serious enough to stop the car. So on top of routine maintenance I'm always aware that a lot of the bits I'm relying on are 22 years old and getting worn. Hence carrying quite a few 'mission critical' spares when I do a long trip (starter motor, alternator, crank position sensor, set of ignition coils and leads). The sort of thing that are straightforward enough to change at the side of the road but would stop me dead if they failed.
