Just wondering now i have a recon unit, that I can barely hear.

How hot should it be after a 25mi drive?

I can touch it, my thermo says it is 58C

Does this sound about right?

Reason I ask is I can no longer hear when the pump was running, unlike the Dunlop I had before!

If it's not tripping the thermal cut out it should be ok I'd guess.

Yep it isn't getting that hot..

68c is the highest after a 40mi run today!

How long the compressor runs, and hence the temperature, depends on the terrain I think.
It should only run when the suspension height increases. That would be coming off a motorway below 35 mph and driving off road when the it is manually switched to off road height. Driving at the same height would use a negligible amount if any. Maybe slight height adjustments for bends in the road. All assuming no leaks in the system and the compressor is working OK.

Dunno if it is to do with the roads I frequent, which are ploughed to an extent!

There are no leaks in the system from what I can gather and it doesn't sink..

It has had a valveblock rebuild too!

Mine is normally just about hot enough to touch (can touch it but wouldnt want to hold it for long!). I can hear it running too much in my opinion, but i think i have a sensor problem as the height is always adjusting a little even when stationary. Really noticeable in a drive-thru queue for example!

Just taken it for a drive locked in Motorway mode, and it was barely warm after a 60mi drive..

So i'm happy with that!

If you can hear it running, make sure the washers on the mounts are the right way up. They are dished and want the bottom ones convex side up and the top ones convex side down.

Don't forget that a decent pump will run hotter than a knackered one. Not only will the motor run hotter as it is having to work harder, compressing the air will cause the air to heat up too.

Yep washers on fitted the right way, the new unit is silent..

My new dunlop pump sounded like a cement mixer!

Interestingly, if you order new washers from Land Rover today, they send you flat washers! I ordered them for a car I bought without any washers on it and the noise was awful and was amazed to find they were just flat repair washers.

I'd be inclined to sit them on a socket and attack them with a ball pein hammer. Then they will be dished......

More driving done, and the compressor is barely warm.

It also rose from access mode in around 6 seconds which i'm pleased with!

Happy!
