O rings? Are you talking fuel pump in the tank or FIP on a diesel?
FIP on a diesel sorry forgot to put that if I knew how to post pictures on here I would show the one that is leaking
ah so you can't get them straight form phone gallery then
basically it the o ring on the head where the fuel lines go in
on the diagram it no2 O ring where it leaking from I've had someone look at it with a camera
just a quick update I've got the old booked in on Saturday to have some one look at the pump for me
Unless it is someone that knows the P38 diesel, it's better if you find someone that specialises in BMW diesels. It is a BMW engine after all.
You can change the one under the top cover easily enough. You need the special socket for the security bolts. Then replace them with ordinary cap head bolts. If you remove the next part with the electronic gubbings, it will alter the FIP timing, so mark it's position first. It slides forward and backwards to adjust. It can be done in place.
You can also change some of the o-rings under the screws as shown in the diagram.
I would not disturb the rotor head to get at no.2 in the pic. I would do it on the bench.
Note that the electronics bit under the top cover is unique to a p38 and specially made by Bosch. A BMW one has the wrong protocol if someone is thinking of swapping it over.
the bloke who doing it use to work for a fuel pump recon company so hopefully he will know what he doing 😉I'll let him deal with it thats why I'm getting some one cause if it do Go wrong I'll have some warranty with it
I did mine in situ (1, 2, 4 & 6), you can change all but the one "behind" the pump (number 1 on the diagram). It has to come off for that one. Guess what? On two engines that I've had it's been that once twice. After I changed all the others.... 👨🔧 Typical.
I have 2 spare FIP's and one has both of those o-rings (no 1), and one has none just very thin metal gaskets.
As Dave says mark the pump, personally I've tried this but it didn't work for me.
people have said can be done in situ I hopefully have sourced a second pump so might just swap them over and get my leaking one reconditioned so I got a spare just incase it leaks again
Not that sneaky one at the back. Unless you have hands like the tentacles of an octopus 🤣 My man hands absolutely do not fit in that space.

I thought if you remove the rear part of pump you need a depth dial gauge and adapter to reset it ---- not that everyday Joe is doing the job --- personally best left to someone like DES who do ours --- not cheap but fully serviced --- I'm sure they could do m51 pump

yes your right that's why I'm getting someone to do it who knows how as if I do it and f it up I'm going to have to source a new pump
