Gonna be replacing my TF shocks with some new'uns..

BOGE are NLA and I have very little cash to spare so i'm going to punt on some Britpart shockers from rimmers..

I can get a set for £75..

Should be a good bit softer than the set I have now..

I'll be honest and admit that as OE Boge are NLA I'd go for the Sh*tpart ones. They are cheap and come with a warranty so if they crap out in a few months time, you just get a new set under warranty. It's not like they are difficult to change and if they only lasted 6 months you'd get free replacements for life.

Thanks Gents

Richard, yes i'm of the same mindset it seems a good deal, considering replacing them is an easy job around 20mins for each end.

The reason for replacement RomanRob is I have the TF +2 shocks which aren't correct for the stock Airbags, as on full droop the bags will pull apart.

I have just put Bearmach ones on the front of my little project and managed to get some old man emu ones for the rear.

They ride nice at the minute as much as i can tell from going round the back roads near where i keep the project until i can get it fully on the road.

A few thoughts on the Terrafirma shocks which have raised a comment or two.

There is more than one type. There are three that I know of for the p38 :-

There are road shocks TF125/126. Most people say these are too stiff and nothing like as good riding as Boge on the road. Never tried them so don't know.

Off road +2" TF144/145. I have these on mine with Arnott GenIII +2" air bags. I have run them for a few years so can give an informed opinion.
Substantially made with a 16mm rod. On road they are immediately stiffer than Boges. You feel every pothole and the inside of the car is noisy and rattles. They do soften up with time however. With four people in the car it is a lot quieter and the suspension seems to work better.
Off road on high setting they are far better. Much softer ride but well controlled on the rebound when you hit the bumps. This is partly due to the Arnotts where the spring rate is dependant on the cross sectional area of the piston. They are much better when towing with a heavy nose weight trailer. Something that is never mentioned.

Off road +2" TF176/177 adjustable damping rate, the bees knees. Dial in what you want. Expensive. Good feedback from users.

Ride quality is affected by several things. Dampers /spring rates /bushes /tyres.

Thanks

I fitted the +2 "stupidly" so they need replacing whether I like it or not..

The ride is bad to say the least even on smooth roads it find massive bumps and potholes to bump over.

You can sell the +2" Terrafirmas. Offer them at half the new price on Ebay for starters.

I run the Standard Terrafirmas - and they are definitely a bit stiffer than the stock Boge units that came off, but it does feel pretty sturdy on the road overall.

I am also definitely preferring the Bridgestone Dueller AT tyres I put on last year to replace the Toyo Open Country AT's that were on there. Feels a lot better to drive.

We’ve got Monroe shocks on one ours and they’re great. One has been replaced due to leaking but other then that, the ride on them is great.

Fitted Konis to mine, only the fronts so far, but feels okay.

Sorry thread seems a duplicate of the other one ... not to repeat myself, forget the Boge if not coming directly from LR.
Mine are "OEM" and don't seem to do the job. I've run them from less than 1k km and then stopped the car (not because of that, lol).
I was told they are Turkish or something like that and not up to the OE ones.
I have a set of TF "standard" new, not mounted yet, and not sure if fit them or not. Monroes are the next option.
I like a soft but compliant ride ...

Having had the Konis on for a few runs now and all it's shown is that I need to do the rears ASAP!
