The three Amigos!

Bastards!

Hello Gents..

I've had a problem with the amigos for a while, weirdly for the MOT they vanished but reappeared a day later!

I've a sneaking suspicion that my accumulator may be to blame as when I first start it the pump is running for a good 30 seconds and when you prod the brake it always comes on, it even comes on when the brake pedal is held steady it buzzes initially when the brake pedal is pressed but if left on steady it primes again!

Also if the lights for whatever reason stay off, pumping the brake will cause them to come on, the pump will also run continuously if the brake pedal is pumped..

Activating the T/C on a slippy surface will also cause it to misbehave.

Brake fluid was new 2yrs ago and according to my tester has no water in it..

Oh and they can stay away when initially started however a mile down the road they'll flash up and the speedo will drop to 0 and then go back to normal

Cheers!!

You've got an ABS ECU problem. Speedo is driven from pulses from the ABS ECU so that, coupled with odd ABS and TC errors suggests ECU.

Oh right.

can it be replaced for a 2nd hand unit or does it have to be coded to the car?

No, not coded, you just need to get the correct one. You'll have the 4 wheel TC rather than 2 wheel on a GEMS.

She was ok today
Right up until the point I got it to activate the T/C and the three bastards re appeared!

Same thing happens if I stand on the brakes and make the ABS work.

odd.

Defo like you say Richard leaning towards the ECU however the only fault displayed on the message centre is "ABS FAULT" not "Tracs Fault" which is weird considering all the lights are on.

'Tis a bit strange, normally with an ABS error you get ABS Fault, immediately followed by Traction Failure. A brake light switch that needs resetting can cause it when you brake but that wouldn't be affected by trying to get the TC to do its stuff. Wouldn't cause the speedo to drop to zilch either.

Yep.

The speedo is odd.

sometimes it does it other times not, today when it happened the speedo was fine, however other times if for ex i'm doing 60 it'll drop/wave down quickly to 20mph and then straight back up to 60...

no tracs fault yet!

FWIW, and bear in mind I know nowt, I don’t believe that your Speedo and three amigo issues are related.
I had a few amigos the other day and they were caused by the ABS sensor not being fitted correctly after I replaced the rear diff..... perhaps have a squiz at the condition of the two rear sensors....
Just a thought...
