Hello all,

I had stopped in to the local dealer last week in attempt to have a VIN cut valet key ordered for my rig. Unfortunately the poor fellow behind the keyboard was unable to come up with any number to put the order through. Does anyone know if there is a specific part number associated with the “fob-less” valet key? Or do I simply ask them to “make a key” since the fob versions are supposedly unobtainium here in the States now?

Gene- I called my local dealer and spoke to the parts manager. At his request, I PDFd him a copy of my registration and my driver's license to prove I owned my P38. He then looked up my lock bar code per my VIN number. He called me and gave me the number for my records. From the Lock Bar Code, he cut me two valet keys and sent them to me-$30 each.

My dealer is in Ashville

Microcat doesn't even show the valet key, just the fobs but as Mark says, it should be possible to cut them from the lock bar code.

The key blank is the same as the E39 BMW - I have a few sets of Silca non-remote blank keys and have cut one set for our other RR.

I have some spare - I'll get the Silca code off it this evening.

Thanks for the help folks. I will inquire for more details next time I head over to the dealer.

That's kind of odd. We didn't have a local stealer back in 2010 when I wanted to order a key so I called the one down in Tulsa. I got the same thing about mailing or faxing my registration, drivers license and VIN but was told they had to call LR in New York to get the Key Code. Price was the same as I recall.

Found it today (and this thread as well)
STC3162 (blank key)
found asr1044 as well, have to check if this is the valet key or the mechanical blade (blank) ...

Both part numbers seem to be a blank key and at around £14, seem expensive. I took my key into my local Timsons who identified the blank as a BMW key which they didn't keep in stock but ordered a couple and cut me a key from mine for a tenner.

I got two non-fob keys when I bought my P38. I also got 2 fobs, one of which didn't work, but that I got repaired recently, so now 2 working fobs plus two non-fob keys.

As far as I am aware the non-fob keys are not "Valet" keys. I had an old Mercedes W124, about 3 years ago, and that came with a "Valet" key. It was a flat key with no holder and was designed to fit into a wallet. Then at a commercial premises you could give a staff member the key to park the car, but it would open only the drivers' door and start the car. It wouldn't open the boot or the glove box.

I'm not sure whether this is of any help.
