I can't find my previous LED light mod thread so I'm posting here, the final outcome. you may remember I modified the courtesy light to create an OEM style internal swithced light without the reading light. Well i went further to create an OEM style single slave light and put one on each side under the shelf supports and wired them into the top lights. The switches are wired as two ways so whichever switch you hit the lights go on or off respectively.
i have no joy in getting photos to work so you can see the pictures here, should be self explanatory.

the LED units are from e-bay and are highly recomended.

I'm really pleased with the end result, massively improves being able to see what you are doing.

The LED units look good but your first link doesn't work I just get a 404 error.

BTW I haven't been able to get embedded photos to work when posting on this forum either but I have seen posts with embedded images so it is possible & obviously some trick is required.

I bought one over a year ago for my vogue and got a full led light kit for interior/puddle lights ----- really good compared to the dim interior lights

Paul, that looks superb. My tailgate mounted boot light was broken so would sometimes fall out when I closed the tailgate and the light from it was pretty pathetic anyway. I replaced it with an LED panel similar to what you have but not in a housing. That works fine but I keep my toolbox on the LHS of the boot in the indent where the sub would be if I had one, so I am always in my own shadow when trying to get anything out. I've been meaning to fit another on the other side of the tailgate but putting them where you have yours, might be a better idea.

I have an LED bulb in my standard light which is getting towards OK (ish) but your set up is so much better.

Ordered 2 pairs for mine this morning. Figured I'd get in first before the rush!

Discovered that I didn't use enough Martrim stickum stuffum when I did my headlining as its sagging at t'back over the load space. All off and re-do I guess.

A tip re the power supply. If you wire them into the existing courtesy light circuits the LEDs won't work, presumably there's some electrikery in the BECM. So I wired mine into the permanent power and earth on the 4 way trailer connector found in the space behind the panel on the left hand side of the loadspace. I think its connector C356 on Rave. It means they act independently of the interior lights and stay on when the other internal lights turn off.

Sounds like the risk of a flat battery in the making! Will the BeCM stand a relay on that circuit? If so it would be better wiring the supply via a relay and switching the relay from the courtesy light circuit.

Irrc there is a permanent 12V feed behind the left(?) boot panel in a white connector for accessories power outlet for a fridge etc. Later (guess post facelift) models have a power outlet in the boot already. Might be the same You have used anyway. Had a look at the accessories fitting instructions and the Kit has the number stc8835
The map reading lights, at least the rear ones, stay on independent of the rest of the car. Discovered because a friend of my daughter played with them and left them switched on. I only realised several days later ... As Yours are LED and dependent on the frequency You use the car, it is a neglectable risk of draining the battery IMHO.

err not sure how you reason that, if they are on you will know it even in daylight. if not no risk? Wiring from the trailer auxillary plug gets round having the have relays and the time out delay issues of the interior lights.

Yep I think you are referring to C356, see two posts above.

The lights look fantastic but if they are powered off the trailer auxiliary plug how do you switch the lights off?

The ones in the roof have switches, they are a variant of the one in the thread above.

the switches are wired "two way" and all the lights in series, so either switch will turn on or off all four lights.

For anyone looking for the varient with the switch, they are used on the Disco 2 for the rear seat area (rear seats as in the full size rear seats, not the ones in the boot area).

I take that as a compliment, mine were made up the same way as the un-switched ones, just cut away less. No idea Discoveries have them. I managed to find the original thread.

Mine was much simpler ... I just took couple spares of the underseat light and cut a hole in the boot panels ... so simple and primitive I am ashamed to show it - also because I've clipped the wrong wire and now one is "on" all the time so I need to re-do it lol

It wasn't meant any other way, it seems they are a commonly used light on the Freelander and Disco 1/2 - AMR2329 and probabbly other lesser vehicles given the Austin Rover logo on the one of mine and this example > https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184808829169

Yours looks a lot cleaner and nicer though than this grubby example. I only recognoised it after having to fix mine when it got put back into the headlining (switch corroded so wouldn't work reliably).
