I might not have the details quite right but its along those lines. Mine works as it should (for now...), and if you put the key into the ignition, before you even turn it, the light flashes without pressing any buttons.

Now and then my fob loses sync with the car, so I have to open with the key and the central locking doesn't work. Pop the key in the ignition and without even turning it, it flashes a couple of times, the locks all go up and all is well again.

I think that's the part of the problem Sloth, when it comes to "syncing" (on later cars) the fob needs to sync to the BECM (as you just described) and on all ages (using EKA) we need to sync the locks to the BECM and the BECM and ECU need to be synced and so on... One thing's for sure though, without sync we're sunk !

I turned the immobiliser off in BECM Settings and once I remembered to "Write Settings" it fired right up :)
Phew, one functional vehicle!
We'll just have to revert to traditional locking/unlocking with a key until I get the fob sorted out. It all serves me right for looking at it the other day and thinking "You know what, once we've got the heater box changed over there's nothing really left on the list"
Idiot!

For the record, the exact message was "Engine Disabled" then "Press Remote". This reset after entering the EKA via Nanocom but reappeared as soon as I tried to start the engine. When I disabled the immobiliser, I got a message saying "Start Engine". Which was nice....

Ignoring the fob... the EKA reallllly should have let you start the car... you were definitely entering the right one? :)

It's a nasty system however you look at it. Why they didn't use an inductive chip key from the start or change to one later... who knows. Too easy.

Here's a video I made of me putting the key to posn2, entering the EKA with the nanocom and then switching the ignition off and then to start.

I just hope that the fob responds to new batteries!

When you entered the EKA through the Nanocom, you turned the ignition off and on again, did you try starting straight after entering EKA, without cycling the ignition?

The engine disabled, press remote message will usually come on if you unlock the car, so turning off the immobiliser, but don't start the engine within 60 seconds when the passive immobilisation kicks in. I've got into the habit of pressing unlock before I try to start the car whether I've only just unlocked it or if it's been unlocked for ages so it starts immediately. If you turn off immobiliser with the Nanocom, then that re-immobilisation after 60 seconds no longer happens. Sounds like yours was already unlocked, either with the key or by entering the EKA, but you left it too long before trying to start it. Now you've turned that 'feature' off, it starts. In fact, I turned it off on mine before dropping it off at the paintshop so they can just get in it and start it no matter how long ago it was unlocked (as I doubt they will even lock it as it's going to be inside most of the time). I know the later ones are different to mine with the passive sync when you put the key in the ignition, on an earlier car it has to be done in the door lock, but I will admit I have never seen the light on my fob come on when the key is in the ignition, only when I press a button, not at any other time.

I did. I tried lots of different combinations and nothing worked once the batteries were out of the remote. Richard is probably right (he usually is, afterall) and I took more than 60s to enter the EKA after unlocking the door. It's a bit annoying that entering the EKA doesn't reset the timer, but hey, Now I know!

They probably assumed that once you've entered the EKA and it worked, you'll be so chuffed with your success you'll try to start it immediately. I don't think there's any time limit on entering the EKA, on the one occasion I've had to enter it on mine, it had been unlocked for ages, it was just immobilised.

To be picky:
it didn't matter how quickly I tried to start the car after entering the EKA. I unlocked the door on the key (central locking worked fine) and entered the EKA on the nanocom which was already on the right screen and had the code entered from previous attempts.
Either I took 30s or longer to enter the EKA or it was still immobilised from previous attempts. As soon as I disabled passive immobilisation I got a "Start Engine" message.
Nanocom pays for itself again. I just have to educate her Ladyship to leave the damn thing in the front of the car.

Well, I'm out :)

I wouldn't own one of these without a Nanocom. This morning, mine took objection to not being driven since Monday, and threw two EAS sensor faults when it raised up after starting it. Cleared them and off we went. Need to pay some attention to the EAS at some point.

Can't wait to find out how many issues mine has with locking/ immobilisation etc when it turns up. Almost convinced it wont even get off the trailer without intervention by Nano. Hoping the EKA is in with the documents...

If you have had the problems associated with the 'old' RF Alarm Receiver Chris it is/was quite common, particularly in car parks, etc.... As far as I can tell the BECM would count the number of what it thought were 'entry attempts' and then go into 'lockdown'... Mine ('95) seemed to like doing this in multi-storey car parks (about to close) in particular for instance (first time this happened cost me 4 hours of my life that I won't get back..) but of course they "improved" all that with later models, as we know... !!

Don't want to start a riot (honest) Gordon - and it's nice to see the Nano getting all these accolades.... but how about seeing if BlackBox is prepared to make a member deduction for us? (Think it was ~20% on the 'other' site - before Toad 'took liberties' with Colin I mean)

Don't know that story :-) I'm happy enough for someone else to approach BlackBox and see if they're up for it.

Mine decided to lose sync again leaving work... unlocked with key and made a quick plea to insert diety before sticking the key in the ignition and waited in what seemed like agony for the light to flash a few times before the locks popped up and it was happy again...

Strongly considering moving to an aftermarket remote setup like I did on my first P38.
