Inevitably, to keep alive any vehicle you must have faced the inevitable dreadful news of no longer available parts ...
Can we use this topic to list stuff becoming unavailable for the P38s and eventual alternatives or options, even makeshift ones?
Not talking about any uber-rare Autobiography stuff or unicorn accessories, but most basic things sooner or later we all might need.

For example, I've been made aware that temp sensor by the heater core, STC3256, is NLA (Valeo). I am happy I got mine recently, but I am not sure how to rig something when it will go south.

OEM heater core Valeo is also out of catalogue, still can be found (I got one as NOS - New Old Stock in UK, incidentally). Alternatives are available (Nissens, Britpart), but not sure I'd swear by those.

Can't really think of anything that isn't available for the P38, heater cores aren't really NLa as you say you can get aftermarket parts.

I'm sure JLR classics would start making parts if they were pestered enough, the same happened for the RRC

Alternative for the heater core temp sensor is a straightforward NTC thermistor and a tie wrap. Although the Valeo heater core is NLA, I'd happily fit a Nissens.

One thing I know that's NLA from Land Rover is rear radius arm bushes. Shame really as the original bushes really do seem to be worth the premium.

Guys, I'm happy to put a spreadsheet together and host it on Google so everyone can populate it with their own experience as they find odds and ends that they can't get and what they have done to fix it.

Something like:

Vehicle - MY - Engine - Trans - Part No. - Description - Alternative - Source - User Name

That would be a pretty simple list. I include user name simply as someone might want to query the poster about it.

This might be better than a long, long topic with pages of information, not following the same format.

Anyway, happy to do it and make it available if people want it.

From another topic, it seems NTC3064, which is the repair kit for the door handle, RH side, is becoming difficult to find.
That would be the driver's door for you guys "on the wrong side" :-)
I've replaced mine and noticed the cam of the lock are sided, you can't swap left to right and vice versa.
As a (possibly hopeless) alternative, we could compare a RH RHD driver handle with a RH LHD passenger handle, if the cam is located in the same position, then it could be a source for you RHD guys that use the RH door way more than the rest ...
Seeing STC3063 (LH side) is readily available I've order it and will take apart the handle and make photos for comparison.

I've used Nissens radiators before with no issues - they fit correctly, they seem well put together and do the job correctly, The one I used most recently was also cheaper than ECP own brand ones (EIS or similar) which are rubbish, rarely fit well, metal is very thin in them and easy to damage (particually if delivered by Tuffnells or similar).

Spreadsheet sounds like a good idea to me - Might be a good idea to add LHD or RHD where it applies (and it applies to some stuff you don't always expect, I've know some vehicles (Not P38 specifically) to have a different heater matrix as the pipework has to go the other way through bulkhead, having ended up with a useless heater matrix for one of mine previously)

Leolito - I wondered whether the cam kits are different for LHD cars and RHD cars. I looked at Rimmers description and they don't specify whether LHD or RHD.

I had a look in my garage to check the part numbers with each other - I have two new ones, from Rimmers about 3 years ago, still in packets, one LH Side and one RH Side - and two that I bought about 3 months ago from British Cars Utah, in the States, again with the same part numbers as the ones from Rimmers, and they are exactly the same.

I haven't actually used the ones from Utah, but they are original Land Rover, old stock, and I can't see any difference between the two different types of kit. I think [perhaps mistakenly] that there is no difference between cam kits bought in the US, the UK, or the EU.

I have just compared the part numbers STC3063, one from Rimmers and made in the UK, and the other from the US and made in Germany, and they are both exactly the same. In the descriptions in either the States and the UK the part 3063 is for the LH side door handle. There is no difference between the fittings.

So, if one is stuck buying in the UK one can just order from abroad, and once the correct part number is ordered then it will fit, for example the drivers' door handle, whether the car is LHD or RHD.

Microcat only shows the two part numbers STC3063 (RH) and STC3064 (LH) across the range. No difference for LHD or RHD which it does show on other parts.

I'd suspect that the Lefthand one will fit the lefthand door and the righthand one the righthand door, regardless of the driving position of the vehicle in question. They look to be the same part as a mirror image (which makes sense given the door catches would be flipped around as well from one side to the other).

They are the same, irrespective of which side the steering wheel is on. The handle mechanism is the same, the handles are the same just the a RHD RH handle has the lock. There would be nothing to stop the owner of a LHD car fitting a RHD, RH handle to their passenger door. It would just have a lock in it that wouldn't do anything.

I must confess though, I bought both STC3063 and STC3064 from Land Rover (ordered them through my local dealer and picked them up the next day) just before everyone started saying the RH one was NLA so suspect I am the guilty party that got the last one..... However if enough people go on the JLR site and click the Notify Me button, they will re-manufacture them, that is how they are doing it. If there is demand they will make them (or buy them in from their sub-contractor that made them in the first place).

It is clear that "left" and right are the same whether the car is LHD or RHD.
What I was trying to say is, if the "right" side (RH) becomes difficult to source new, one option could be to use a good LHD "passenger" door handle, generally less used, and good for you UK guys on the "driver" side.
It is an advantage of parts that are swappable in between LHD and RHD cars ...

No, the lock no certainly, but that is why I was wondering if the thing can be taken apart sufficiently like to fit one.
I will next week do my driver's side (with the lock) and make some photos of the innards.

Some parts are swappable - for example the forward part of the handle (the one you pull), for my front passenger side I used a "rear" one, that was like new (the plastic bit that gets into the cam), and they are the same.
