Don't forget the amp, speakers, head unit that I would like Marty. I've sort of forgotten who was having what. I think it was going with the complete car possibly?
Anywhoo, still want it if its available but will need posting as you are wayyyy to far from me! Would love to have come down ,shame I can't.

Marty,
Is it still worth me coming up there tomorrow, or will next week work better ? I can probably only do 2-3 hours either way.

Hi Pete,

Probably next week would be better when Richard has been over aswell, so we can get the rear axle out (I have found it and it's up the back of the workshop) behind some other stuff).

I've been up today and put out a load of rat poison, and sprayed disinfectant everywhere else, so going to give that a few days to settle in. I also loaded up a pile of random old scrap metal parts in the back of my RR which I'll take to the scrap metal place tomorrow hopefully.

I think I will try to continue just tidying up and sweeping up all the crap around the floor over Easter, and then next week it should be in a better state (hopefully) to be able to get some things out.

What day(s) work best for you next week?

Cheers,
Marty

Next week is fine. Not sure what day yet, but will let you know over the weekend.

Thanks,
Pete

Yeah, it was going with the complete car - and to be honest... given the state of it, even if Jack doesn't take it, I don't think the amp board is going to be much use at this point as the rats have got through a load of the wiring.

The head unit however, is here at home - and I actually have a working DSP amp that I'm open to selling (I will try and test it here again before I say 100% it's still working! I think I've still kept the stereo test loom here for all of that and didn't send it to NZ.) So can potentially get you sorted that way with head unit and DSP amp instead if you want?

I've been doing some googling and, quite a lot actually, posts have come up regarding amps and other stuff I don't understand really. Anywhoo, mines a 2001 dhse with no factory fitted sat nav so I'm guessing I don't have the door amps. I don't know what dsp means but I do have the HK system with tweeters(?) In the front doors, twin speaker subwoofer(cones are toast) and a cd player all in one lump in the boot. Cd player works, nowt from the rear passenger speakers or the subwoofer speakers. I'm hoping to get it all working again so ...dunno what I need but if I need your bits then yes I'm interested.
Everything is factory on this car which is how I like it but I'm no ice expert, far far from it so plug and play with some explainable wiring alterations is right up my street!

If you poke the tone button on the stereo and DSP comes up as one of the options, you have the DSP amp. If it has died in the past someone may have fitted one from a Discovery which results in no rear speakers.

That's interesting to know, shall fiddle with it maybe tomorrow. Ta.

Pressing the tone button brings up bass, treble, balance and sub woofers no dsp.
Going to strip out all the stuff on the subwoofer side and see what I've got.

The DSP amp is deep inside behind the sound deadening felt. It may be that if you have a Discovery amp in there the head unit doesn't detect it as a DSP amp so the option doesn't appear.

+1 on the possibility of a Disco amp.
And yes, if it is not a DSP (Digital Signal Processing) amp, you only get the front speakers.
So, if you do find the black box up top behind the sound insulation behind the subwoofer box, post the part number.
I had the dead DSP amp issue,(twice!) and did the disco amp thing on my 02 then started collecting any
DSP amps I came across in wreckers yards. Now, I think I have 3 spares! Worth having for the great sound!

Never got a chance to strip anything, bloody rain is relentless! Looking slightly better tomorrow, Saturday, I'll note any part numbers I find. Will need advice on what speakers I need to replace the wrecked sub woofer ones too at some point. I have read somewhere of someone repairing them but can't find it now but unless they are very expensive I'll replace them.

Love this forum! So much knowledge !
Looks like I'll need martys dsp amp then.
Richard...what route are you taking to martys? You possibly might be passing within a reasonable distance of me(telford, shropshire) . 2 spare bedrooms here and parking if you want a stop over? Or could meet up at a services to save marty packing and posting stuff to me?

No, I'm much further south than that I'm afraid, my route will be Peterborough, Wellingborough, Northampton, Oxford, all cross country. There's not even a convenient meet up point as we are in completely different directions. I don't do a stop-over unless the journey is more than a 24 hour drive.....

Have a look first and see if there is a DSP amp in there...
A DHSE model, I wouldn't have thought would have the DSP amp - as it was mostly on the Vogue spec with sat nav. But who knows - at the end of the production years, it seems LR made a mish mash of vehicles and specs with what they had lying around...

Another way to check is to pop the head unit out and see what wiring is in there... If it has DSP amp, then there will only be a Left/Right audio feed out (4 wires - from memory Red and Yellow twisted pairs - one solid colour and one with a black tracer)- if it's got door amps, then you'll have Front Left/Right, and Rear Left/Right - so 8 wires and Red/Yellow/Blue/Green twisted pairs - again one solid colour and one with a black tracer).

Don't want to sell you a DSP amp if you don't need one!

I'll have a look for the head unit and test a few bits over the weekend. I'll also look and see what speakers I have here, as I know I had some of the door woofers as one point and maybe a few of the mids aswell - but I can't remember what I kept and what I chucked out.

Best replacement for the door woofers are the JBL Stage 600CE and they comes as a pair with decent replacement tweeters too. I've replaced all 4 of mine with them. Speakers for the sub are also 6.5 inch (if you have the sub with two speakers) and any half decent sub speaker of the correct size will work fine.

So current update on things...

The rear axle has been located, and I just need to hike it out to remove the half shafts and the diff.
Richard is taking the half shafts, and Pete is having the diff. The axle casing isn't worth anything, so will go to scrap.

The front axle from the '98 - Nick/Sloth is interested in it aswell for his P38 as he has a leaky diff pinion seal, will need to do ball joints at some point, and also as it has new shocks and radius arm bushes etc it takes care of maintenance on his. Waiting to see if he wants to formally make me an offer on it/come and help take it off.

I'll then arrange for the '98 to go for scrap.

Jack is taking the 2000 and I believe is looking into having it collected, so it will go as a full vehicle. Also will go with it will be the old rear bumper cover from the '98 and some other stuff as I find it.

Other things that are at the workshop that are available and might be useful...
2x sets of wheels/tyres.
Thor transmission and transfer case (from Nick's P38 when he did swap to M57 diesel. No torque converter but has XYZ switch
GEMS fuse box from the '98
Front bumper from the '98 - intact/no cracks that I could see - it's up on a shelf out of the way
couple of lower steering column linkages, and a steering column from inside the vehicle.
Steering box - again from the '98
I've emailed V8 dev, but not heard back from them yet about parts for core, but I have a number of exhaust headers, lower intake - GEMS and Thor, GEMS V8 heads, from the '98 (looking at the block/heads I think it was head gasket failure on the engine.
I believe the AC compressor from the '98 is there too.
I have a set of Thor V8 heads somewhere (I think in my garage here) from my old engine before I rebuilt it
The block from the '98 - so a GEMS one - complete with front cover, crank pulley, flywheel etc. which I've asked V8 dev if they want, but also open if anyone else wants it
I also have a load of P38 BECM power boards sitting in my garage here (about 30 of them I think I counted last time I was here!). There may be a few complete BECMs with logic boards too, but think I stripped most of them out, so it's just cases and power boards.

If I can see/think of anything else - or if anyone is interested in something I haven't listed, then let me know. Anything that might be useful/still working condition I will try to save and bring home to stuff in the garage for the moment - but other bigger items will end up going for scrap at some point

Update on the front axle from the '98...

Nick has made me a really good offer on this as he wants it for the diff, ball joints, shocks, radius arms, and the front air springs - so the whole package and wants to come and grab it tomorrow as he's working next week,

So sorry Richard, the ball joints on the Ascot will have to be the old fashioned way! I do however have a set of press tools for the ball joints which you can have if you want (to keep) if I can find them before you come over this way.

That's fair enough, if I've got the press tool I can do them myself. Maybe that will stop it having the steering response of a supertanker (or a ship called Dali....).

Thanks Richard and marty, weather is looking better for tomorrow so I'll have more info for then. Although I've had all 4 door cards off to waxoil and the 2 fronts off again to do the stiff sticky out door handle repairs I don't or can't remember if there were door amps. Popping the radio out is a top tip.

Amps are down in the bottom front corner, so easily missed if you aren't actually looking for them.
