Hi folks :)
I tried rebuilding a Dunlop branded EAS compressor a while back and it was so totally grenaded inside I gave up as the bearings were shot.
I've got two more in the garage of uncertain provenance. What do you reckon to my chances with these ones?

Can't tell from the outside !! I would run them using a 12V battery first & see what they are like. Then open up & inspect.

Probably a lot better. I've seen a couple of the Dunlop branded ones that have been completely destroyed inside. No idea who makes them but I suspect someone in China as Dunlop don't make pumps themselves. The old, all black, ones usually just need a new seal and sleeve.

Well I ran them both and one gives about as much air as the current Dunlop using the 100% accurate "can I keep my thumb over the exit" test (yes, rather too easily).
The other one produces enough air to gently waft a candle flame.

The good news is they both ran smoothly so they seem like good candidates for a rebuild.

Sadly my newly rebuilt valve block was a total failure. After 20m of pumping, I gave up and pulled off the pipes without a single hiss. This was using my best, albeit weak, pump.

So plan B for our trip to the South next week is to take a rebuilt compressor and an 8mm socket.

When I put everything back to how it was before I started my 2 hour swapathon the Duchess stood up before I had put my tools away; even with the bonnet open, which was a nice suprise.

Ah well live and get confused...

Grrr, I pulled the first spare apart and it's one with grooved lockring on the piston. The X8R video shows a smooth sided ring so I dont think this seal is going to work :(
There was an O Ring in the groove but it was so brittle it's like weak plastic. Time for some measuring!

Hmmmm. Might have pushed my luck!

Was trundling up the M1 and the EAS came up with 35mph max.

We got stopped and plugged in the Nanocom which showed" RHF valve permanently open"

I cleared that and checked the valve status...RHF Closed. Ok.

But the compressor was running when we stopped and then stopped showing "Hot"

After a few minutes with the bonnet open and the EAS cover removed, it ran for a couple of minutes then stopped again.

So, current plan is to have a leisurely coffee in Leicester Forest East and let it cool for 20m. Then pray.

It's obviously worn and working too hard so is overheating. The big worry is that either the thermal switch dies so it goes off and stays off or by running near constantly it will wear itself to the point that it can't generate enough air.

Are you on your way out or heading back home?

Sorry for the suspense. We made it home on my emergency valve things. I've had them rattling around in the centre console for nearly a decade and now they've earned their keep.
The rears were straight forward, one pipe per bag. The fronts seemed odd, we pumped one up and nothing happened, then the second line shoved the nose up evenly. I'm have to check out the diagram but probably not until tomorrow.
We got back from Leicester Forest East in 2.5hrs without refilling the bags so at least I can be confident of the bags and lines!

I use only two valves & tees. That way you can pump both rears up together, and then same for the L&R fronts. Easier to get it level.
