I have a certain amount of drama unfold (popcorn in hand) on a couple of forums regarding advertising commercial services. There appears to be an opinion that forum users who run a business shouldn't advertise unless they buy an ad.

Rules are pretty ad-hoc in here, at least until I get my arse in gear to write a TOS for the site. In the meantime, if you run a business that provides a useful and relevant service that people in the Range Rover community would benefit from then go right ahead, as long as you're not annoying folk. If you do okay out of it, great. If you make an absolute mint out of touting your wares on here, a contribution to the running costs would be in order :-)

As always, the overarching rule is Don't Be An Arse.

Well, just to be safe, since I seem to be the only one who repairs/sells parts for P38's... And don't have an ad... I've removed the link to my webshop from my signature.

No, you should absolutely leave it in. Otherwise how will people know where to buy their door latches?

I don't speak for anyone else here but myself; I don't have an issue with you having that link in your sig Marty.

Haha, I haven't sold a door latch in months.. mostly as I need to get stuck in to cleaning parts, and actually building some, and I'm running low on CDL motors..

That and to be fair, half the time nothing has any availability as I'm away!

Maybe the rest of us should add to our sig "Still happy motoring with Marty's latches..."

Not sure which other forums/fora you are referring to there Gordon, but from other fora I participate on the problem starts when 'members' only offer 'services' and really not a lot else... (eg. Like Scotty on that 'other' site where your reasonable 'Don't Be An A-hole' advice their Mods. ignore).

Not sure either -other than Sh*tParts (with their 500% mark-up on bad quality stuff)- which truly 'commercial services' are making a mint on P38s to be fair....

Anyway, as previously mentioned, and speaking as an 'infrequent adviser' on here, just set up a PayPal account Gordon and I'll happily chip in !

I don't have a problem with either Simon or Marty having their websites on their signatures. Although his username is a bit of a give-away, having a signature that shows he is a full time LPG installer adds credence to Simon's posts and shows he does know what he is taking about. The same goes for Marty, those of us that have been around for a while know that he rebuilds door latches, HEVAC units and can unlock your highly confused BeCM, but anyone new may not know that. So again, a link to his website just adds to the information this forum dishes out.

So I say, put the links back......

So I say, put the links back..... Makes sense Gilbertd; Similar on other fora I frequent.

Sorry to raise it again but the more 'under the counter' vendors like Toad/LeftLane/Scotty certainly could be A-holes about it at times......
