Whilst taking the front axle apart to change the ball joints it became apparent that a new pair of brake discs are in order.

Shopping around the bizarres' I found these:

Seemed a bit cheap for a set of four, has anyone had any experience of them? Are the fronts still vented?

Not particularly after grooved and drilled discs, it just seemed a cheap set of four (though saying that, I got four mintex discs and pads for my Rover 75 last year for £80).

Not used them, I know the brembo ones are, but expensive , I'm sure someone will have fitted, looks like they could be britpart, which fronts are solid

I have drilled/slotted on mine - they came in Britpart boxes when I bought them. Rears are solid discs, fronts are vented.

They seem to do the job pretty well, and definitely stop it... Don't know what/how much/if there is any difference with them being drilled/slotted - but they work.
I bought EBC Ultimax pads to use, but wouldn't recommend them as they are too hard a compund and apparently are more of a track pad (even though they were listed as the cheaper OEM spec replacement)... Even to this day after changing them 5 years ago, my rears still squeal when I'm in reverse and put the brakes on... annoys me, but there's a lot of meat on them still so can't be bothered changing them!
I've heard EBC Greenstuff are good but expensive, but otherwise Mintex are good (and what I'd go for next time)

EBC green are really excellent. The matching dimpled discs were expensive but together they make a great set and the pedal on my p38 is just perfect.
I haven't tried mintex on a p38 but they're usually good too.

I've put new Mintex on both of mine and find them really positive. Haven't managed to get them to fade yet.

Thanks for the recommendations, I shall use them to guide my purchase in a few months time (got full service to carry out first including gearbox oil).
