I can search through the posts and find all of them that have images hosted on Photobucket.

If you'd like me to host them locally I can probably just copy them over by hand, at least until I get the image uploader finished. If you'd like me to do this, either reply on this thread or drop me a PM.

I've already downloaded all my pictures from Photobucket and uploaded them to Imgur instead. On some of the more recent threads I've edited the post and changed the image location. I'll probably do the same to some of the older threads when I get time as you never know when someone might do a search. I also closed my account on Photobucket and when it asks for a reason why, I told them.....

I did consider hosting them myself as I've got a couple of spare computers and a broadband connection with a fixed IP address but had absolutely no idea how to do it.

Happy for you to do that with any of mine. Might be tricky to do though. I'm trying to download all of my PB albums prior to deleting them- failing every time I try at the moment.

Yes, took me ages to do it too as it kept failing but did it eventually. It kept falling over when trying to contact Catpcha, I suspect from the number of people all trying to do the same thing.

The PB site seems to be pretty screwed right now. I guess you're not the only people with that idea.

Ahh, the joys of having a home server with fixed-IP internet connection, and a webserver running on it.. can copy paste items to the server drive, and then link to them whenever I want...

I guess the only downside is that if my server goes down for any reason, or the IP address does actually change for any reason, then they'll all disappear!

OK Marty, as I've got a broadband connection with a fixed IP address, how do I do it?

On my server, I setup "WAMP" which is a web server program, that does http/php/apache etc - but once that's setup and attached to the network adapter/IP address of the server - whenever you navigate to the server IP address, then it will web serve on port 80 (standard http port). You can then have different directories in it's www folder.

I have a port forward/redirect on my router, so any incoming traffic to my ip address gets forwarded onto the local IP of the server. I can then reference that url to images etc and use that as the link in the images part of the forum.

Huh? I'll stick to cars and radio I think. That went completely over my head......

I'm sorely tempted to set up a VM at work and stick Centos and a web server on it, but that would be a bit naughty. Although, we do get our bandwidth free of charge... hmm.

A wee tip, if your struggling with a photobucket image thats been held hostage in another thread or something.

If the link is clickable, click it. It'll load the photobucket website. On my PC this at first shows the same placeholder image, though sometimes it does just show the image. Once the page has loaded, hit shift F5, and the page will reload and the image will appear :)

If the image is not clickable, right click it and choose "view image" or "open image in new tab" depending on browser. Again, this should load the photobucket page directly, and should show the image. If it doesnt then again shift F5 should bring it up!

For hosting my images i have my own webserver, but i often find myself using dropbox for quick snaps as the photo automatically syncs them and it creates a public url with a simple click.

If your going to host images from your home connection, sign up to a dynamic DNS service, which means even if your IP Address changes, the name still points at your new IP.
