http://allterrainuk.com/ £25 to join, not a lot of info. Has anyone any experience?

I've never done any green laning (just one go in a Pay and Play place near Robin Hood's Bay) although I'd like to give it a try. The thing that holds me back is the worry that I'll end up trespassing, ignoring a TRO or basically pissing off a lot of people without knowing where I stand. Does anyone know much about it or know of any groups that are worth joining? I'm not really interested in discussing which type of Defender differential has the best pinions, just would like to get our and enjoy some countryside in confidence I'm not going to get arrested!

But the Duchess will get dirty and scratched to buggery, unless you're going to do it in the (gasp) Jeep?
By the way, I've set up a web site devoted to responsible Green Laning- please send £25.00 to my PayPal address and I'll tell you more about it, perhaps...

Mark you are cheaper than the GLASS organisation (Green Laning ASSociation) they charge £32.
I found some general info here:

On the other hand, I heard that Marty's workshop is already pretty remote...

tbh, I probably would take the Jeep because it fits down smaller lanes.
It seems that there has been quite a lot of rule tightening recently and it's pretty hard to get offroad in the UK if you don't own a farm or a forest.

I offroad/green lane all the time, there's hundreds of miles of lanes in Devon alone.

Get your self a new ordinance survey map, they show all the lanes you can go down.
They also had an app for your smart phone.

Depending on where you are in the country I also know an excellent little known website the lists at least 90% of all the legal lanes you can drive down, plus the coordinates for your satnav.
I wont post it though.

As Gordon said, find your local ALRC Land Rover club.

I pay £20 per year to be a member of mine. They organise regular events including green laning. Membership of one ALRC club allows you to attend and participate in any event organised by any other ALRC club around the country just by showing your membership card. Each club is different in the events they organise - some are competitive and some aren't. Mine is competitive which means that the majority of the events are trials based on navigating round a course of numbered cane gates. TYRO and RTV trials are designed to be non-damaging and are for standard vehicles. CCTV trials are the proper hardcore ones that require roll cages etc. Others organise pay and play days.

The clubs will also have someone in the organisation that will mark local lanes on your OS map for a small fee - our guy charges £3.

Also, your local council will have information about what lanes you can and can't use but some make it harder than others to find. I think it's called the definitive map.

I've been greenlaning in my P38 and not suffered any scratches or damage but it will depend on the lane and weather etc.

DevonP38, could you PM the website you mentioned? I'd love to know more of the lanes around where I live.

I will PM you now RR, however looking at it, it doesn't cover up North.
I'll send it to you anyway in case you venture this way at any point.

OK, the North Yorkshire Definitive Map is... DRUMROLL
here: http://maps.northyorks.gov.uk/connect/analyst/?mapcfg=Out_and_About

Sadly there's very little in the way of Green Lanes on it.
Actually there's a couple within striking distance, but one of them is so mild the Google Maps car made it all the way!

Grrrrr. There's a clearly marked BOAT on the definitive map which has a locked gate across one end courtesy of the Forestry Commission.

I would contact the Forestry Commission and ask them to remove the lock. Cheeky sods.

I take it back - I'd got the wrong entrance, but there's a permanent TRO on that route (Hambleton Drove Road). Seems there was 500km of RUPP in the North Yorkshire Moors but now there's only about 3km of BOAT that are still open.
