Hiyas Vancer

No worries, not selling anything, I am just trying to help and enlighten any and all Landy Lovers to understand things related to their problems based on what I believe I know and understand from my diagnostic equipment development perspective and provide honest advice.

Right now I Have a 2012 Evoque that I need to replace at least 3 of the door handles on due to an apparently known water ingression problem and a 2003 L322 with a seemingly snapped bonnet release cable I need to sort, which no amount of diagnostic equipment can help me with.

I am just another Landy loving Owner / victim just like everyone else here.

Airbag ECU's typically store a fault when it detects that it's supply / the battery voltage goes below a certain threshold, because it relies on a good input voltage to create the High output voltage required to fire an Airbag. Depending on The Airbag ECU model / design / year / complexitity it may still indicate a fault after the Voltage is returned to being above the threshold.

Nanocom or otherwise, keeping up with P38 problems really does require an investment in some form of diagnostic equipment.

For Reference, when the BeCM is in the alarmed state, it does not reply correctly to any diagnostic request for information, but instead replies to every diagnostic request with a default value.
It would have been easier if it simply did not reply at all, but it seems that the designers of the BeCM had other ideas.

Origionally the Nanocom was not set to detect this and interpreted the replys as valid data, resulting in incorrect settings as detailed in the User Guide for the BeCM, however we have updated it in later firmware to detect these incorrect replies and so come up with a communication failure message, which is an improvement that has not yet migrated to the user guide and this oversight will be addressed shortly.

As per the content of this thread, The BeCM can be taken out of the alarmed state by unlocking with a sychronised Key Fob, unlocking with a Key or otherwise convincing it that this has occurred in the event of failure of the Micro switches in the door lock.

Noting that if Key Fob syncronisation has been lost and the BeCM is in the alarmed state, having a failed Micro switch in the door lock prevents both re syncing the Key Fob and taking the BeCM out of its alarmed state.

Many Thanks for all your recent comments and honest feedback.

Just like a P38 Range Rover, over an L405 Range Rover, the Nanocom is not the latest and greatest technology.
It is certainly not some multi core 1,X Ghz processor powered multi touch smart phone / tablet, just like the P38 is also not some collection of Super fast,
networked ECU's.

Few will likely know and appreciate that technologically and diagnostically the P38 is a collection of different ECU's from many different manufacturers that all
impliment communications that are specifically designed to be as evasive, incompatible and as non standard as possible. EG, Try finding 1387 on a Baud rate table or imagine inverted or differeing voltages over any standard. Their design aim is entirely to prevent any third party access from easily communicating with them.

Some are so akward and odd that they cant even share the same pins on the Diagnostic connector, hence there are 3 pairs plus a special wake up pin for the EAS.

The ABS, needs to be reset manually by recycling the Ignition after ever communication session to put it to sleep, so you can have another session with it or
with any of the other ECU's it shares the same pins with,

Of course this is all written in the documents that it seems so few take the time and trouble to read and the Nanocom gets so quickly and easily blamed for so many of the communication issues that are actually P38 ECU diagnostic communication design issues.

Of course the Nanocom is not perfect and does share at least some blame, because to do what it does, the Nanocom uses no less than three seperate microcontrollers, a main one, one for the screen and touch inputs and one for the Vehicle Comminications.
These try their best to stay in sync, but sadly their syncronisation can all to easily get overwhelmed and the entire system crashed by users imagining it to be
some super responsive smart phone and over enthusistic button pressing, function switching input expectations that it simply cannot keep up with. Also a single
glitch in Communications can reek havok with it.

I am very glad to read that at least some have figured a good part of this this out and appreciate our efforts to add the P38 to the Nanocoms coverage capabilities..

With a good clean diagnostic connection, a little understanding and effort in reading the provided documentation explaining about the various vehicles various ECU foibles, a little patience and appreciation,I still believe the Nanocom is about as good as it gets for accessing a P38 IMHO, FWIW.

So we are all already up to

No worries oldShep56, I am a traitor too as my daily driver is now a nice Bali Blue 2010 RR 3.0 TDV6 sport and I recently sold my 99 white P38.

As OB states the kit for your Sport is available, PN NCOM41.

Please feel free to add your name to the list, getting us all almost half way there.

If you are planning to visit to pick this up to avoid postage and pay cash etc, we do provide this service but you will have to pre arrange it with my Admin Angels and likely stll put through an order that we would them manually modify to remove respective fees.

Re keeping it sunny, I will do my best and normally I would all but guarantee it, but a couple of days ago, during the weekend it actually rained really heavily here for about an hour. This event was a really huge novelty. No seriously, I was running around in just shorts looking for a missing Dog that I found cowering under a sun bed by the pool.

Hiya all
I really appreciate that my post and offer to host a group buy discount as being regarded as I intended.
For the record, right now we are actually more at risk of running short of producing enough Nanocoms to sell rather than running short of customers who want one.

As many here already already appreciate, there is a huge piece of mind value in having such a capable and portable piece of equipment as the Nanocom on board at all times and even if you are lucky enough to never have to use it, it's resale worth makes investing in one a real no brainer.

Gees it costs less than a spare wheel and Tyre.

Its capabilities however, via its live data recoding and the new CSV viewer app, extend to far more than it providing simple emergency diagnostics

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AukR8icbK1M&t=2s

Honestly, I use my own Nanocom for this more than any other reason.

Regarding Support, yes we do provide the best support we can by documentation, e-mail and our dedicated owners forum.
We are however still not perfect, but clearly we are vastly better than most and to such a degree that I am able to be here here as a member and also as the owner of BBS, the ultimate publically answerable representive of our company and how you get treated.

So the list so far which can be copied added to and re pasted is;

1) davew
2) blueplasticsoulman

no10chris;
The group buy discount offer would extend to include any Nanocom accessories like windscreen mounts. additional leads or additional unlock codes purchased at the same time as the initial KIt.

I hope this helps

Colin

Hiyas all.

I really enjoy reading such posts as this and have to say I very rarely see a post as informative, honest, knowlegable, appreciative and deeply understanding comments about the many various aspects of the different equipment options available.

Many thanks for those that have chimed in on this post with comments of support for our Nanocom, however I do not wish to add some biased opinon to this great thread and so will not even mention some unmentioned Nanocom benefits.

All I would like to say is that I think that In this thread, things like hidden costs of additional leads and actual capability being not properly explained, support, documentation , false claims of having insider knowledge, that only an MSV-2 can deal with the worst case locked out BeCM's, that you can't add L322 before 2010 onto a Nanocom, ease of use, SD card benefits and much more have IMHO been uniquely and accurately detailed here and are a true credit to the posting members.

Before I hit send, and at the risk of seeming sleezy, salesy or opportunistic, I would like to point out that just as I have on many other forums, except the great unwashed one of course, I would be happy to host a group buy on this Forum for it's Members if anyone is interested.

The rules for eligability would be quite simple.
You would need to have already been a member before Today.
Members would need to sign up to a non committal list of being interested in participating.

Thereafter I would post up a unique Promo code to use during on line purchase that would give you a huge 20% discount.

After ordering you would need to PM me your order Reference number for approval.

Warmest regards and best wishes to all.

Colin

Hiya Smiler

MOT checks might seem a PITA but at heart they provide a valuable check, ultimately designed to keep you safe.

I for sure do not want myself or my wife or staff driving any vehicle with Iffy brakes / piping or ball joints and take any advisement that something needs replacing as helpful and assuring.

As has been stated, rectifying these issues and replacing worn or corroded items that might fail as you mention is neither difficult or expensive on a 10 Year or more, old vehicle.

It's much more sunnier and more often here in Cyprus, But then that just makes the welcome even sunnier and warmer from me :-)

If a Height sensor is, by some additional connector resistance, mis representing true / actual heights, The EAS ECU would and should still try to match these falsely reported current height values to within a small degree of stored values.

Of course you cannot bend a solid floor, so if the errors are on opposite corners rather than one side or the front or rear only makes quite a difference.

As has been stated

There's a bit of hysteresis in the system so it doesn't constantly jiggle up and down trying to get to the exact value.

less than 5 is nothing to worry about, but 15 needs looking into.

I noted with some interest that later Vehicles have what is refererred to as a Tight Tolerance Mode that seems to overcome this aspect for tracking and aligning purporses.

Glad to hear that you have also got this going.
I am not a big fan of VM software and for sure have plenty of older equipment including XP laptops I could use for this, but it is nice to be able to fire it up on my GOM equipment for the sake of convienince more than anything as well as my somewhat lesser Home PC.

Hiyas all,
I am Running Microcat 3.7.0.3 July 2014 on a 64Bit PC with Windows 10 using a Virtual Machine (VMware) set up as XP, so it is possible, just a little trickier than normal.

Hiya Guy's
The Nanocom Evolution indeed only offers coverage for the L322 before 2010.
I appreciate that this might not seem logical, But the reason for this is mainly because it won't fit, as i will explain.

The P38 typically has only about 7 ECU's on board with Diagnostic capabilities, even covering all options and variants, comes to only about 14.
The L322 however has typically around 20 and all options and variants comes to more like 30.

On the P38 ECU's, most are somewhat basic with a limited number of Fault codes and settings. Eg the most sophisticated for settings is the BeCM with around 40.
See this help page.
BeCM Help

However, on the L322, most of the ECU's are vastly more complex with hundreds of fault codes and hundreds of settings.
Eg the BCU (BeCM equivilent) has 120 settings and other ECU's like the Instrument pack and even just the Park distance have a lot more each.
BCU Help
Ipac Help
PDC Help

You can hopefully appreciate that it would be near impossible to fit so many settings on a unit with a screen that typically has 6 settings on each page, not to mention the massive amounts of memory space the coding would require.

So sadly, this model and year range is just not viable on the Nanocom Evolution.

So how then are we able to offer coverage of later more sophisticated models like L322's from 2010 and Discovery 3's etc you might wonder.
The answer is down to these vehicles being CAN BUS based, which networks them and complete standardisation across all their ECU's, which allows us to create general functionality based coverage for rather than model or ECU specific ones.

EG all settings for these vehicles are stored as a file call the CCF (Car Configuration File) in just one Master ECU which then shares this over the CAN BUS network with all other ECU's. Modification of the CCF is not provided directly on the Nanocom Evolution, but via an on line resource we call Genesis.

I hope this helps explain the basics, but am happy to answer any questions

Hiya Guys and being politically correct, Gals, many thanks for the very warm welcome and appreciation of my contribution potential to this forum, especially as i am understanding and have more reason to support it than most.
I will of course do my best to drop in, check posts and contribute as often as I can.

However as most will appreciate, with running a company such as Blackbox, I have a very heavy and distracting work load.
So i would really appreciate any member here seeing any post or opportunity that I might possibly contribute in, dropping me an e-mail at colin-forums@blackbox-solutions.com.

I consider that a definate upgrade over some gordonjcp ;-)

Hiya's all and many thanks for the very warm welcome.

Of course, my priority is and will be to assist this forum and it's members in any way I possibly can ;-)
In fact under the circumstances, I intend to make it a point to do so

Re falling foul, it should cheer you all to know that my own particular foul was to outwit, and give as good, if not better, than I got.

But very glad to be in this club :-)

Most recent changes and improvements to the Nanocom are indeed for CAN BUS vehicles, but we here at BBS still try to address any reported problems on what we call Legacy Vehicles (Not quite Dinosaurs).
And we are always improving general aspects that affect both.

BBS does not always get into detail about everything that has been improved upon and many may well miss things.

For example, recently there has been significant improvements to the functionality of the Instrument mode, making it a one touch start with Auto start CSV Recording and a one touch stop, as well as a freely downloadable mind blowing CSV reader application for the recorded files.

Usually known as either BBS GUY or BBS SPY on quite a number of forums, I make absolutley no secret as to the fact that I own and run Blackbox Solutions Ltd.

I have no need or desire to promote our company or products here on this forum, as most will already know exactly what we do and just how long we have been doing it.

My main reason for joining is actually to help and assist this forum to grow and I feel sure any that soap boxing I may accidentaly slip into will be honestly recognised for any bias it contains.

I hope to be able to freely share my insider knowledge of both our products and developments here, alongside my obvious technical knowledge of the P38 to help and assist It's members when and where I possibly can.
