Ok, so rewind a few weeks, I offered to get some 3D printed parts made to fit new microswitches for P38 door latches. My son has printed 20 of them, although I would still like him to print some of the blanks - plastic blocks that you can fit where you don't need a microswitch on latches that aren't for the drivers door.
I'll post some pics of the 3D printed parts and show them assembled with the switches and fitted to a latch. It is a fiddly job, but not that bad for anyone who likes a small DIY challenge!
The cost of making them is very low, so we're just looking to recoup postage and packing costs.
Let me know if you're wanting some, I think Richard (Gilbertd) and romanrob have asked for some so far
Ok, I'll see when he could make some - I know he's in the middle of some project work at the moment, so might be a week or two before I can nail him down!
I recently repaired my drivers door latch with new microswitches, look the same as the Cherry/ZF microswitches in the RS Components link, I think I got mine from Farnell.
I used the 3D printed parts here - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3047495/files ........unfortunately I needed to get the job done fairly quickly so didn't take any photos. It's a bit fiddly, but not too bad once you figure out how it functions.
My passenger door latch also needs attention, as the door ajar switch seems to have failed. I'll probably pull it out and fix it in a few weeks, so I'll take some pics of the process if anyone wants to see - we could also do a small batch of the 3D printed microswitch boxes if anyone needs some, just let me know, my son has a 3D printer.
That's what I meant - genuine or OE bushes are no longer available - obviously pattern ones are readily available. I must admit I really don't want poly bushes, but I also don't want cheap inferior bushes - puts me between a rock and hard place!
So now Bearmach have disappeared, which of the alternatives do you recommend? Britpart or Allmakes? Maybe they source them from the same place anyway.....I guess the proper LR tool is required to fit them.
Thanks guys, I'll change the radius arm bushes at the chassis end and the panhard rod bushes.
Sadly, it looks like ANR3285 is NLA - has anyone found a source of OE ones? I was going to buy the correct tool, as they're not a bad price, but it doesn't seem like a worthwhile investment if I can't buy the genuine bushes anyway!
I guess poly bushes are the way to go if I can't get genuine/OE bushes - I already have the panhard rod bushes, Lemforder, made in the UK.....
My P38 has recently developed slightly odd handling where it feels as if the rear end is choosing a slightly different direction to the front. Recent work at the front includes new radius arm bushes, panhard rod bushes and drag link, and over all the car feels much better. The rear panhard rod bushes appear to be fine, but I suspect the rear radius arm bushes are the main cause.
Is this a common experience? It's my first P38 having driven RR Classics since 2008, my Classic Range Rovers never seemed to do this!
Has anyone ditched their OE fan setup and fitted electric fans instead? I did a re-chassis job on a bit of a Series 3/ Defender 90 hybrid Land Rover a couple of years ago and swapped out the aged Kenlowe fans for a pair of fans taken from a SAAB 9-5. They were pretty much a perfect fit in their original SAAB housing. The quality is excellent, and I've never seen them fail. They're readily available on auction sites very cheap.
I have a pair in the workshop with the intention of using them on my Vogue SE - the OE fan is not in good condition, and the horror stories of their failure have always worried me!
It probably wouldn't take me long to get them fitted, but I have a shocking to-do list at the moment....just wondering if someone has already done it, and what solution did they use for controlling the fans - by the way, the SAAB fans are designed to run either very quietly, connected in series, or in parallel for maximum cooling, so with a little ingenuity they would make a good solution.
If you have a Prins LPG system, there is no map - it bases its LPG injector times on the petrol injector times. However, if the LPG installer has set the Rc wrongly, it will cause these sorts of problems - could be the adaptations were out when they set it up, but they didn't have a tool to reset them?
Good to hear you've got it sorted.
Thanks for the replies guys - Mine is 2002, so they need to be type approved. Scrap value of the old ones will be several hundred pounds, and new genuine ones will last for another 200,000 miles or more, so that's one option, or new type approved aftermarket cats about half the price - does the insurance cover cats if they're stolen? Perhaps I should contact them and find out....
For sure, OEM cats usually last for a very long time, particularly on good quality cars. Most of the aftermarket cats seem to be rather poor quality, although I can only assume the Euro 3 cats required on the late models are better quality since they cost at least 4 times as much.... can't imagine they will last like the genuine LR cats though.
Hey guys,
I'm looking at replacing the original cats on my Vogue SE, they still work fine but the pipes are getting too old after 210,000 miles - starting to blow a bit, and unlikely to pass the next MOT.
Anyone got any advice or experience of the available cats - I've been quoted over £1,500 + VAT for genuine Land Rover cats, which doesn't surprise me, but are the cheap aftermarket ones any good? Are there better quality cats available without going genuine LR?
