Plus I’m planning on re spraying the car in August so I’m a little begrudged fitting my lovley new inlet prior to me painting!

It’s almost done. ECU is in and all the wiring is now done, except the live wire as I figured there’s no point hooking it up till I’m ready to commission the system. Everything is ready to go. I’m not really happy with the way the ECU is just in the gap wedged with some foam though so I want to get somthing sorted to support it properly. May just be a case of sticking a couple of holes through the plastic and bolting it up.

Just got the inlet to fit now, but it’s been manic here at home and it’s just finding the time to suck it up and do it.

Main thing is that I’ve got leaky rocker cover gaskets and I’ll change them while It’s off but I want to restore the rocker covers at the same time, so it’s just a case of getting around to it.

As I’ve started cycling to work now it means I can take my time with parts and restore them properly.

Gilbertd you got any advice on how to get all the trim off the sides? Are they just metal clips? And more importantly, if/when I break some can they be replaced?

Depending on which trims, there's a visible plastic nut or self tapper at one end. Take that off/out and the prise the trims out with your plastic trim removal tool. They are held in with plastic pegs in sockets and all of mine came out without breaking. See Rave, Section 76, Chassis and Body, Repair, Rubbing Strips and Door Finishers.

Cheers mate, literally just found it! I was searching the web for door trim, didn’t know they were called rubbing strips!

Brushes looked a bit worn tho so I just ordered a new brush assembly anyway, I’ll post a little how to when I get them and fit them.

The cars laid up atm anyway. So whipping the starter back out isn’t too much bother

Sorry Chris only just read this! Would have saved me a Sunday cleaning the old one out. Turns out the combination of a leaking rocker cover gasket and 20 years of carbon build up equals cement!

Cleaned her all out with some contact cleaner on the motor and some brake clean on the front, re-lubed and stuck her back togeather.

Works like brand new lucky enough. Another free repair. I’ll stick my £120 in the bank for when somthing big packs up!

So sounds like there are 120 reasons to give it a good boogie out prior to buying a new one then! Glad there is a possible way forward prior to buying a new one. Plus there is not a better feeling than restoring somthing over buying a new one!

Sorry forgot to say, I did run the wiring at the same time, I was just so hacked off with it all by the end I didn’t take any photos! Basically zip tied the loom to the pipe along the length then it’s tied up about of the way for the moment until I get around to fitting the main loom

I think you can probbly tell I’m a mechanical engineer not an avionics one! I’m avoiding the wiring at all costs.... hoping some wiring fairy comes along I suppose lol
