Thanks to all. I remember the sensor. I will give it a shot with WD40== thankfully they do sell it here.

Because I have a tendency to pester certain people in the forum way too much, I will throw this one to the masses...

Got the new bolt and the battery is hooked up. It didn't even ask me to re-sync the key fob, though I don't use the buttons because they are in such bad shape.
Anyway, I am now getting Alarm Fault - and I forgot what that means. Owner's manual just says to contact dealer. That certainly won't be happening.

Any ideas? I am sure at least 10 of you have had this problem before. Thanks in advance for any help.

It would be nice to think that I could fix just ONE thing on this vehicle by myself (with a little help from my friends).

Mole grips? No idea what that is. Unfortunately no one at the local dealerships speaks English and my French is awful, so I can't get past the receptionist to speak to someone in Service Dept. Ugh. Don't know where any of the "breakers" are in this area, or if they even have any.

If Rcutler needs to know which part I need, Gilbertd has placed a great picture at the beginning of the post string.

Chris,

That would be great if you could find something that I can use. Another thought is to go to the local LR dealership. I found a new one between me and Paris. It looks rather small, but maybe I can convince them to try and find a part. Most of them flinch if I mention the year of my vehicle. You would think they should be proud any of their vehicles stay on the road this long.

Not sure how that configures with the piece I have. Guess I would have to see it to believe it. My house electrician said his dad used to work on cars, so maybe he will have a go at it. I just don't know how else to get this fixed. Again, a beautiful vehicle gathering moss. I will be pleased if I ever get to drive this the same amount of time it has been sitting in state.

Marty,
Thanks for supplying the part number. Problem now: Land Rover no longer has this part in stock. Ugh. Tried several part shops online and no one else has it either, since they get their parts from LR. Any other ideas? I am going to have to move this vehicle soon, since it is parked in the town center parking lot and they will be holding events there soon.

Can't blame me for the burning of Nor-Auto. I was out of the country at the time.

As for the re-working of the cable - finding a worthy auto electrician seems to be the problem. I mean, I am in France.

Thanks for filling in the missing pieces of my story - though I don't think I can blame Nor-Auto since they didn't even have the correct battery for my vehicle. In fact, they didn't have anything for my vehicle. Now their place is burned to the ground they can't even give assistance or anti-freeze.
Anyway, still hoping someone can help solve the mystery. I hate to think what kind of shape the BECM will be in at this time with no juice getting to it...

Greetings all. Would anyone be able to send a quick pick of the battery cable hookup configuration on a circa 1999 P38 Diesel? There is a possibility that mine is not hooked up correctly, which may be the reason for some of my battery issues. I could guess that one of the recent garages might have done something odd with it, but since I can't watch over their shoulders, there is no telling.
One of the reasons for this is that I got a few new cables being the old positive connector is broken and won't stay snug on the terminal and the new one doesn't match the configuration of the current cable in place.

Many thanks for anyone with info to share.
Teri

Just wondering if anyone knows what ALARM FAULT in the display means? I can't locate it in the Owner's Manual.

GilbertD - if you are still going to be in the area in early May, I am hoping you might be able to swing by with a nanocom. Still haven't heard from the guy in Versailles and not sure when I will be able to make it over that way. Super busy with work these days (and always).

Thanks for the tip. I have sent a message to RRHSG - but it looks like he hasn't been online since Jan. If I had the time I could always pop by his place for a glass of vino- but that will have to wait a bit.

I stepped out to the Rover last night to see if I might have a bit of luck with unlocking and VOILA! All doors opened with the first turn of the key! I know that this was just a fluke event, but at least I got to move it out of the parking area. It was quite surreal sitting behind the wheel since I have only been able to drive it a handful of times. Still need to get a nanocom over here to keep the bad things from happening again. Too many home improvement projects in action to blow the extra money on a nanocom just yet. I will keep you all informed.

Ba-ha. If I were closer to any of you, I would already be knocking on your door to get this resolved. As it is, I am still trying to find someone with a nanocom near Paris - that might be able to make a housecall. The mechanic that had it in the fall when Marty fixed the BECM figured anyone that had something to fix that was a "computer nerd" (not sure of the exact term since it was said in French). I would have thought he would have a nanocom being that Land Rover directed us to him as a certified LR mechanic. Welcome to France.

All of this makes me think that Land Rover should offer an option of a nanocom when you buy the vehicle. :)

Who is RRHSG? I didn't think there was anyone that close to me in the forum.

That would be awesome! I am only 40 minutes or so from Versailles- and that is in not so wonderful traffic. What exactly would the nanocom do? You remember, I am still a rookie at the LR ways.

Morat,

List of current faults begins with the fact that the EKA isn't working. REALLY bad news is that the vehicle is parked at the Mairie - (neighborhood parking lot) and I have to have it moved for upcoming function. Have tried and tried and just can't get this stupid alarm to stop. Is there a way to disconnect the alarm? I would happily pull the plug on that just so I could drive the vehicle.

Thanks
Teri

OB,
I am so totally with you on the P38. My first - and will be my last. Got it back from having cooling system rebuilt (FOC due to shady dealings from mechanic) and now alarm system is still giving me a headache. Wonder how much I can pawn this thing off for?$$ Hammer and tranqs sound perfect right about now.

Anyone in FR want to buy a P38 - cheap? :)
