I can't get things synchronised. In the RX box i just get a continuous stream of numbers and letters I do get some FF so the idle light flashes on and off I just cant get a steady stream of FFs. I'm wondering if its the USB adapter. The program is connected to the EAS as I can hear relays etc clicking and the dash beeps. Any ideas.

Is the box green showing connected ?.
If not, most likely you haven’t chosen the right comm, you can look under device manager, it’s there somewhere ( soz, I’m on my iPad ) the first thing you do is click comms, once your on the right one it will fire into life, your get the usual faults of car moved ect, just ignore, clear any faults and it should be ok
Otherwise give the obd socket a shot of cleaner, also check for bent pins in the lead, easy to do

Can't get a Green good idle box. Checked comms and changed ports also tried different USB ports. Also cheked the driver is the correct one for the USB adapter. Cleaned the obd plug with contact cleaner. Will have another go after work.

Don't suppose you have another USB adapter to try, ones using the FTDI chipset are the most reliable. I've got a PCMCIA card to serial adapter that has never failed to connect to anything you are welcome to borrow if needed (if you laptop has a PCMCIA slot). Come to that, I've got an IBM Thinkpad with a docking station that gives a serial port too but it's probably a bit hefty to put in the post.

Thanks for your very kind offer. My laptop has no PCMCIA slot which is a bugger. I have a windows desktop system again with no port but I could put a serial port card in as there are some spare expansion slots just a bit awkward to use in the garage. The other thing I found today is this from the Landyzone forum.

The sequence is plug in the cable, turn on the laptop, open the software, turn on the ignition to position 2 start the software. The "STATUS =" button should turn from red to green if all is OK. If you change any settings you need to reinitialise the software and sometimes turn off the ignition and then on again before it will sync.

I don't know if this will make a difference but will try it when I have time. Thanks again for you kind offer.

Success it's working. Used the connection process in my last post and ran the software as an administrator and in windows xp compatibility mode and synced straight away. The fault was showing as rear left sensor out of range. I have reset the EAS and will now see what happens. Thanks to all for the help and advice.

Huh, same sensor as mine. (I still need to fit it, I've been on holiday for a week).

I still have an 8/16 bit one and a 64bit twin serial express port card. I agree with you they have never let me down - ever. USB - serial hit and miss.
