I accidentally posted this on the electrical section so I thought I would post again on here.

Yes another irritation.

Only had my P38 for a number of weeks and all is going reasonably well. Converted back to air suspension and a handful of other little niggles sorted out. Just returned from a blast down a dual carriageway with all the windows open and the headlinIng has dropped from the sunroof backwards. I guess it was loose and with the wind flying about in the car it has surrendered to gravity!

Done a bit of reading and don't fancy having a go at this myself but quite happy to let an expert renew or refix as necessary.

I am based in the Dorking, Surrey area. Does anyone know of anyone who could sort this out for me?

I'm in Westhumble and was going to have a go at replacing mine. It's part of a much larger restoration.

I've got a kit from Martrim thanks to advice from others on the forum.

I'm currently locked down until the middle of the month but would be happy to share my experience. If you follow the workshop manual or RAVE it is fairly easy to remove.
If we could get someone else who has done it before along that would be brilliant.
Let's see if anyone else wants to do theirs as well.

Hi David. Sounds good to me I have reserved garage facilities here, a double open garage and another with a two poster.

You would be good to hear other peoples experience of doing this if at all possible.

Where did the word reserves come from?

Just to reiterate I have garage facilities! I am also shielding but being very sensible and can have a distanced meet up to discuss it sometime if you feel like it.

I was shielding but my wife had a positive test - not correct in my opinion- so probably should wait until the 18th when I am released just in case.

Just deleted your duplicate post (in case you wonder where it went). When mine came free after having the windows open the car filled with sticky orange bits of foam.....

Generally a straightforward job but best with three pairs of hands to keep the new headlining under control as you roll it onto the adhesive. Two of us managed mine but the result isn't perfect. I know exactly where we ran out of hands, probably due to inadequate technique!

Shifting all the old foam off the backing is "messy".

Crowborough to Dorking isn't far so if you want another pair of hands I can easily slide over for the day but mine has a solid roof so I've no experience of pulling a sunroof out. I imagine that, like everything P38, third times the charm.

One word, Martrim......

I agree with Richard (Gilbertd), Martrim is the way to go. A very good service and I've tested their glue and it is very impressive.

I used a thin blade scraper to get the foam off and it wasn't too bad. The surface is still a bit sticky. Do we need to get all the old glue off?

No need to get all the stickiness off, just any lumps of foam so the surface is smooth. At the summer camp my partner was in Marty's workshop taking the old stuff off with a wire brush. Made a hell of a mess and she ended up with one inch sticky foam platforms on her trainers. Then she walked out of the workshop and the gravel stuck to the soles of her shoes.......

An update. Spoke to a friend of mine today who reminded me that a friend of his does car upholstery as well as other bits and pieces on cars. He is usually working on American cars, a bit of customising or a full fit out.
I visited him today and he has booked it in for Monday week.
Happy with that as I do know him having shared tall stories over a few beers at a few parties in the past! He also works 7-8 miles from me. Result as I wasn’t really looking forward to tackling this myself. Give me an engine rebuild or chassis work any day!

Edited so the picture shows up. Remove the [/img] so you just have the link, click the picture icon and paste the link into the box that pops up.

Thought I would have a go at just copying a picture from PistonHeads and knocking out the first img in brackets. It acts as a link but not put the picture up. Thought this might work as an easier option but sadly not.
