Anyone got a cheap fix for the gas strut in the centre cubby box? Mine is useless and a replacement is £40+!!

I got mine re-gassed.
Didn’t even know that was possible! How and where please?
Well here there are mobile re-gas services, guys who come to you to do gas struts. Try a search and see what you can turn up.
I also got one re-gassed (for the glove compartment) at SGS. Trouble is, if they over do it (as mine did) there's no valve to release the gas.... Lots of time wasted - my advice is to spend the time to find a better priced new one... think i paid about 30 in the end. The one on the cubby box (drinks tray in my case) is f*** all use anyway -or at least it doesn't make the release clip on my lid any less fiddly.
I got mine in island4x4, britpart for like 12 gbp, oe was double the price (around 25). 40 sounds a lot ...
oh yeah, not sure where i got £40 from then? !
Probably from looking at the glovebox strut, I know they are expensive. I looked as mine has no gas left in it but after reconnecting the one in the Ascot I realised that a strut with no gas makes closing the glovebox easier. I'm OK though, my poverty spec interior doesn't have a strut in the cubby, or the worse than useless cup holders either......
Hey - the cupholders work a treat!
Later models have deeper holes than the earlier models..
It sort of depends where your seat is whether they're any use!
If a short Lass drives my P38 the cupholders are near useless, as the seat is quite far forward she has to twist her arm around to get to em!
Luckily they're in just the right place for me, with the seat all the way back, they're in just the right place!

They're just in the right place to spill liquid over the switchpack 😲
I much prefer the one sold as an accessory for those of us without the ones in the cubby. Gave me somewhere to prop my tablet to watch a Grand Prix while halfway through France too.
Ok.. the 2001 cupholders work fine for me! (and my wife who is nearly 6ft)
