Hello gents.

My Brand new Hankook battery was found stone dead after a week of inactivity around 2v registering..

I've recharged it and the current drain when awake is 0.90 Amps..

If I rig my multimeter and close the bonnet it drops to 0.62..

Does that sound about right?

No, that about 11 watts. Something is keeping becm awake.
Have a look when it's dark and see if the leds on the gear shift are illuminated. They should go out when car is locked.

Cheers..

Just checked and the RF receiver is disconnected.....

well I've sat in it.

There seems to be what sounds like very low radio interference coming from behind the dashboard and the P light on the lever is illuminated

I've noticed this before.

However this noise used to stop after a while..

Any ideas?

Right it went to sleep after ranting and raving at it...

Still puzzling the noise!

which goes when the car goes to sleep!

BeCM will go to sleep exactly 2 minutes after it sees the last input. So if you get in and close the door, interior lights go off but the LED next to the gearchange will still be glowing dimly until the 2 minutes is up and then it goes out. That shows the BeCM is asleep and current draw should be down to under 20mA. If it's higher than that, something else is still powered up.

Righto.

I've sat in it again and the light does go out, but it takes longer than 2 minutes..

It also only seems to go to sleep if i'm sat inside..

Odd.

Could the LPG electric keep it awake?

Bloody thing won't go to sleep unless i'm sat in it!!

LPG would only draw power if it's faulty but you can pull the fuses to make sure. Only sleeping if you are in it doesn't make any sense. What is different if you are in it or not?

No idea Richard!

When i'm inside the light goes out, if I peer inside through the window after the same period of time the light is still on!

Just had a thought..

I have no compressor or valveblock in it at the moment,.

However would it still try to level?

Possibly, try pulling the timer relay. Although that doesn't explain why it only sleeps when you are in it.

Right..

I've removed the LPG ECU and related fuses..

She's gone to sleep..

Not holding my breath though!

LR say 1A awake, and 40mA asleep - so the sleeping draw seems high... mine's far below 40mA

Cheers..

Wake it was 0.90 amps..

It settled to 0.62 but she was still awake, i'm assuming when it goes to sleep it to is well below .40

I'll check tomorrow!

StrangeRover there's another test procedure, which is from the blackbox website:
BECM Sleep Test
This test will determine if the BECM goes to sleep properly or it will stay awake.
Sit in the vehicle in the driver seat with all the doors closed.
Wait until the interior light switches off.
Switch on the ignition.
Switch off the ignition.
Open the driver door and leave the door open for the reminder of the test.
Switch off the interior lights by pressing the button for 4 seconds. On the message centre you can observer the message "Lights off".
The message centre displays "Ignition key in" for approximately 2 minutes.
If the display goes blank after the two minutes, then the BECM is gone to sleep, if the display is still on, then the BECM did not go to sleep.

Aftermarket Stereo headunit, amplifier, Sat-Nav etc? Burnt/sticky relais?
Fuse circuit by fuse circuit measuring is the systematic search approach, which I know for identifying a "current thief".

Good luck!

You will find using these charts make the job easier. You need a multimeter, digital is best. Take the leads and probe the back of the fuse, whilst it is installed (you can see the terminals on the back). Note the voltage in mV across the fuse and refer to the chart to give you the current drain in mA.

Standard Fuses

Maxi Fuse

By way of example, if you have a standard 20A fuse and the voltage across the pins is 0.2mV, then the current flowing through the fuse is 59mA.

Today she seemed fine, voltage when sat was 12.5 after 24hrs.

It was 12.65 so I'm a bit confused..

Fine today!

Spun over like a top!

I've moved her further from the house, maybe that'll make a difference, we have a new fangled BT hub and weather stations so maybe that was keeping it awake..

She will go to sleep..

I'll have to check tonight!

BT Hub/Weatherstation/etc should not be a problem if the RF Receiver is still disconnected...

Not sure what that 'low level noise behind the dash' is though.... odd !

Might be an idea to start pulling fuses when the noise is there to see if it can be narrowed down as to what it might be without having to pull too much of the dash out, particually if the original source of the noise isn't very clear.
