I'm snowed under with domestic air con installs until the middle of October.

I need to pick your brains about this at some point. Can I give you a phone at some point over the next few days?

In the end I bought a 2-pin diff and fitted it. I kind of wish I'd also done the oil seals but having removed the old rusty hub bolts it would be fairly easy to get at it again.

I used one of those "flower cookie cutter" bolt extractors with the pointy milled bits that taper in to pull the bolts out and they came out remarkably easily. It's the first time I've used those and I wish I'd bought them years ago, they'd have saved so much bother.

It wasn't too horrible even doing it on the (fairly quiet) road outside my house, although it did of course totally piss down while I went inside to have a cup of tea to steel my nerves for lifting the damn thing back in so I got soaked when I went back out, but it needed to be back together for tomorrow morning.

Well the howly noise from the back end is gone and it's all back together but I've got this bit left over.

Any idea?

I know David Hallworth had a D2 compass in one of his P38s, and I think it was pretty straightforward to fit.

Also it wasn't as many as ten thousand members, maybe about three thousand. I've got that down to almost half, by removing all the people who created accounts but never activated them (probably because they had email addresses like r.y.x.ewrf.02934.ssdt.dr.u@totallynotascam.ru) and all the people with clearly spammy usernames (so many George<three letters> accounts like GeorgeTef, GeorgeBef, GeorgeToq) who had activated accounts but never logged in.

A while ago I took some steps to limit the number of signups from places that are not being terribly neighbourly on the Internet and that's quietened things down a bit.

It's more likely to be one of the BECM feeds. The studs soldered into the bottom of the fusebox get dry-jointed and when you go over a bump they lose contact for a moment.

On EWW I replaced the three maxifuses with a 4-way "marine" fusebox mounted on the end of the battery box, which confused the shit out of someone who went to put a battery on it and move it while it was parked. No maxifuses! Well, only two!

I love the new EAS driver pack. For quite a while I've been running with one that uses an Arduino and six MOSFETs for the PWMing but it's nothing like as fancy as yours!

Congratulations, and welcome back to P38 ownership :-)

500 quid for an engine from someone reasonably reputable like CN4x4SS in Wales, and a mate with an engine crane. They're not actually that horrible to get out, and you can fix a lot of other annoying little problems while you're at it.

There's the hospital itself, and on the far side of the car park, the biggest ambulance control centre/depot in the north of Scotland. Police HQ about 1/2 mile away.

Raigmore? There's a bunch of noisy shit on UHF around there. Some of it comes from a fairly inocuous tower that's wired to a bloody great hole in the ground...

You can buy an inexpensive 3-part cat pipe set on eBay which seems to do the job. If you chop up the old pipe (mine actually just fell apart while trying to remove it) you can fit it without dropping the gearbox.

Merry Christmas folks :-D

YAAAY! Congratulations!

The RAVE download here (https://rangerovers.pub/downloads/rave.zip) is just a bloody big Zip file of the PDFs. It works on any OS that has a PDF reader.

Lately I've noticed that Evince, the PDF reader that comes with Ubuntu, complains about links between documents, which seems to be some wacky political decision on the part of the devs that I haven't had time to dig into, but it works just fine if you browse to the PDF you want. Most of the time I'm in ~/rave/pdfs/lp/ and either reading the ETM (file starts with et) or Workshop manual (file starts with wm).

That's a bit weird. It's a .jpg, but it won't let you update it because, what, it reckons it's not a .jpg?

I'll look into it tomorrow :-)

Hi folks, I haven't really had a lot of time to do stuff with the forum but a few folk contacted me to say it was unbearably slow.

This appears to be because the thing that makes emojis work has been closed down by the third-party provider, and it takes a while for the script that handles emojis to do its thing. I've disabled it, and things seem pretty snappy again - at least, as good as they ever were - but if you spot anything that looks really really wonky let me know!

Aw man I work in Hamilton but I'm crazy busy right now. Will you survive a couple of weeks with it the way it is?

I can't say I've had any problems with stock BPR6ES. Apparently they're meant to be gapped to 0.9mm which is probably about 35 thou, I don't really get all this inches stuff ;-)

8°C is an amazing dream right here, it's 23°C and stupidly humid at midnight...

Surely if power is missing from pin 19, it would be wiser to check where the power comes from? It's unlikely to be the TCM.

Edit: wait, is 19 an output rather than an input? In that case it would make sense.
