Well, we hit 30,000 at 15:51 on the 28th of December 2020, post number 31027, and it is right here - @dave3d posting about turbo hoses :-)
I should have thought of some sort of prize really...
That's as near as I can figure from the database, and working back from the total count and highest post ID in the database. So we've deleted just about 1000 spam posts over the five years the site's been running, and (weirdly) only about 250 topics.
Nine quid for a 5p 5.6kΩ resistor? I am in the wrong game!
I probably see about five or six spammy signups a day, but mostly they wait for a week or two before posting if you leave 'em.
I created a group "Limited" that doesn't allow them to post but allows them to update their bio and message me, so that if someone is accidentally accused of being a spammer they've a chance to set things straight, but I've yet to see any of them do that.
Plunked.
I really ought to get around to hooking stopforumspam.com up to the signup process, and automoderating anyone with a nonzero score.

the subject ........ I have set up my own server using a raspberry pi zero. Cost me all of £10.
I have a stack of L/R technical documents and I downloaded all of the RR.net pages when that nice guy posted the link a while back.
It works and can be accessed via the net. I have the domain name: landrover.stufftoread.com
It is not switched on at the moment however. It is not secure and the front end needs setting up. It just lists a stack of files.
I am trying to get to grips with HTML language but I think I have lost too many brain cells.
Drop me an email and I'll talk you through setting up stuff like letsencrypt - which is the bit I haven't fully set up here that expires every three months when I forget about it :-)
Just for the avoidance of any doubt about ownership, this site is entirely owned by me, hosted at a company in the UK, there's no company or corporate structure behind it or anything, it's not for sale, and it's as secure and solid as is reasonably practicable. There are Google ads served to not-logged-in users which racks up about the price of the domain registration every year, so not too shabby. If anyone doesn't like the site or the conduct on it I'd urge them to talk to me about it directly rather than do a big public flounce.
I'm glad to say the only posters who have ever been banned are actual proper spammers. We haven't had anyone being enough of an idiot yet among the "real people".
His stock insult is calling everyone "happy amateurs" what he doesn't get is that without happy amateurs, the site will quickly become irrelevant.
Aren't we all "happy amateurs" at something? I'm only just learning how to fix cars, but given that I've been only just learning about it for nearly 40 years there are a few things I'm not too bad at... ;-)
Bury, y'say? My brother-in-law's from there. Retired welding engineer, y'say? He's got a RRC Vogue LWB with a floor pan like a set of lace curtains...
Shouldn't be asking for a username, just the password rrpubjune
Make sure you're going to https://jitsi.gjcp.net/rrpubjune not just rrpub :-)
Should have posted this up earlier, link is https://jitsi.gjcp.net/rrpubjune
and the password to join is just rrpubjune
Sounds good! 9:30pm BST it is.
It's quite easy to get at the steering UJ from the side, if you take the inner wheelarch liner out. It might even be easier to pull the driver's side wing entirely.
Yeah, that's my fault, the TLS certificate expired and the script that autorenews it had gone all P38 on me.

That'll do it, although is probably a bit overkill. One of these would do nicely https://eleshop.eu/rf-explorer-wsub1g.html.
Yeah, but I'd have to buy that, rather than recover it from a dusty corner of the workshop store ;-)
Mine's just developed an odd fault. If you turn the key to III all the accessories shut off like you'd expect, but the engine doesn't crank. It's exactly like it thinks it's not in N or P but the dashboard says it's in Park. If I jumper the starter relay, the engine will turn over but there's no spark at the plugs, presumably because it's "too smart" to fire the ignition if it's not actually being started on the key? Although that being said, I thought you could bump start manual V8s, so that kind of makes no sense. The ignition switch seems to deck the appropriate pin on its connector.
It's too dark to really check if all the supply rails are present but that's my next port of call.
Any other thoughts?
I've actually just swapped it for another one that seems to have cured the problem, round at Miahs, while we were doing the head gaskets.

The banner picture, the intro... I mean... the whole thing has clearly been thrown together by someone that doesn't have a clue.
Oi, I resemble that remark :-D
So looking at that there's a big plate where the pedal box goes and the steering column. I wonder if you could fit an LHD steering column and box and LHD pedal box to make a fully dual-control P38, like how aircraft have two yokes...? :-D
I got stainless Allen bolts and they were much easier to cope with - especially the one that's hidden by the steering column, where you can chop the end off a "ball end" Allen key and fit it into a suitably-sized socket to get the right angle on it.
