OldShep. Could I just explain. The reason why I sent it to Powerdrive was because they had fixed the diesel leak as they are the only place around here that have the necessary tools to do the job. Apparently. My local garage picked up a fault which they thought was from the FIP code 1 fuel quantity adaptation. Now as the repair was still under warranty and I was told the code referred to the FIP that is why it went to Powerdrive. They say it was the code for the one under the back seat!!!

Powerdrive say the pump on the tank was at fault and have replaced it. That and other time spent looking at this and that to try and find what the loss of power is being caused by, is what the £760 + vat and other amounts they are charging me for.

Firstly would you guys be able to identify if fault code 1 fuel quantity adaptation, relates to the FIP or the one on the top of the tank. My local garage said it related to the FIP but Powerdrive say it did not.

Well if I had know that it had a specific model name ie. P38 I could have researched for information about it. Unfortunately I was not in possession of that nugget of information. Now I have the thing, which on the surface, is a really nice vehicle I have absolutely no idea how to go forward. Do I cut my losses and sell it, but who wants a vehicle that is not working? I have spent so much on it and the likelihood of getting anything like the amount I have spent on it back if I sold it is very remote. The present bill is going to be over a thousand and it will still not be working. Then there will be the cost for transporting it away from the garage. To where??? That is another question. Feel like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. In fact I think the end has been sealed up!!!!!

There are so many nice guys on here who seem genuinely sorry about being unable to help. I appreciate all the support. I am so depressed and fed up at the moment, and after the call to the garage I am more depressed. On top of the £760 plus vat there is more to add and still no vehicle to use. Despite having this lump of useless metal, I do not have a bottomless pit of money but wherever I turn some one is trying to relieve me of what I do have. The latest is the doc who wants paying for his signature on my medical form. Because I am reaching 70 and drive 16 seater minibuses I have to have a separate form done.

You deliberately bought a another P38??? With what I have in the past and am experiencing now with my P38, I will not be buying another one.

Oi Cheeky. I was not being impatient. It was statement of facts.

Hi Dave.
I have told the garage to hold off for the moment. They have said they have sourced a refurbished unit. At least I think that is what he said. I was at work trying to do the call and it is sometimes a bit noisy. He then said the fitting is tricky. I asked if the top was taken off to repair the leak and he said yes but they did not fiddle with it. I also asked, if I should decide not to proceed any further, what would be the space of time it could be left there. He said there are a lot of bits and pieces not on the car at the moment. Might be a couple of days.

Have to do these replies in short messages as it times out!!!
It looks, at the moment, like I am going to have to purchase some new wheels. Not looking forward to that!!!! Probably, knowing my luck, I will get something that will have problems and the hiccups will start all over again!!! Not being able to get about and my own thing is doing my head in. I am probably too independent but that is me. Hiring something which does not give me pain to drive would mean spending a lot more money. If I did not have the issue with my leg the cost would not be quite so bad but cost it would. Don't get me wrong. I could so easily, according to the consultant, have lost my leg from the knee down. I didn't, thanks to him, but it has left me with the problem when driving. Small cars have the pedals too close together and twisting my foot to get from one pedal to the other really is uncomfortable and I end up with my size 9s on both, if I am not careful.
So. Now to think what to do. To be honest. I haven't a clue.

Hi Marty. Yes. Dave has found a part on a French site £500. I think your advice is sound. I will call the garage today and say I need thinking time.
I am happy to take advice from you and the other guys.
Now. If I decide to take it away from the garage, is there anyone local to me that could do that?. (The local breakdown place is not cheap!!)
Where would I take it.?
Is it worth getting someone with a nanocon to take a look?
Clive603 said there might be the possibility of him coming here with his. I would be quite happy to be mechanics mate!

OldShep. Exactly. Diesel fuel injection specialists. They are the only people around this area that are supposed to be " experts " When the leak developed it was the only place the garage could recommend. Whatever happens I am stuck between the rock and a hard place. They say they did not touch it when they fixed the leak. How do I know if that is true? They are going to charge me for replacing the part . If they cannot get one they are rattling on about a new pump. This is beginning to spiral out of my control.

Hi Dave. Yes it was running fine. There were no issues with starting, (that was it's one good feature!!!!) running or anything else at that moment in time. So. Are you saying that the repair that was done to cure the leak, would have necessatated removal of this part? Since the repair was done the starting was not as sharp as it had been and the fuel consumption was not as good by a few miles. Would this actuator have had any effect on this? I hope they have not mucked it up completely. They are saying they did not touch that part.

Powerdrive on the Dundas Spur estate.

The garage has fiddled with the acutator and decided it is faulty. Is it something the fiddled about with when they fixed the leak in the FIP. No. So not, they say , covered by the warranty. Next issue. The part is no longer on production!! Bosch 2467135197. Any ideas guys????

Well. New problem.

Hopefully true. I will call them tomorrow and ask how amenable they would be to Marty looking at it if nothing has moved on. It has been 4 weeks now and I am not a happy bunny!!!l

Still nowt from garage. I do not feel no news is good news!!!!!

Quite right. Weird things do happen.

Marty. Thank you for your offer. It would be interesting to see how the guys at the garage relate to you. I would hope that a solution would be found by the end of the month but...........it is not looking good. I am sure you would sort it.
Wish I had someone at home to talk to but my daughter knows nowt about cars and my son has his own life.
My husband, God rest his sole, would not have known any thing either but at least he would have been someone to have a moan at!!!!!
As they have not phoned today I assume they either have not done anything or still have not got any further forward to solving the problem.

Good grief guys. I am blinded by science. I have read through all that info. I will read it again to see if I can retain some of it and make a bit more of a head to tail of it. Talked to the garage today and asked if their diagnostic tool was a nanocon. No is the answer to that. Told about the delicate adjustment of the pump as Dave said. He said he had been thinking about that over the weekend. Then he said maybe they would take the pump off!!!! I said I would rather they did not as it would mean more cash to add to the already £760+vat bill. If the local garage had picked up that the fuel pump fault code they were getting, did not relate to the one under the bonnet I would not have sent it to Portsmouth. The reason it went there was because they fixed the leak last November and obviously the work was under warranty.
I am thoroughly pissed off with it all now. I cannot go to my darts matches or anywhere else for that matter. I could sometimes use my daughter's car, but she has a Punto. Due to a smashed leg after a riding accident some years ago, I have difficulty in small cars as my right foot does not point forward. Twisting it to get to pedals causes a great deal of pain. Have no problem in that useless lump of metal I own or in the 16 seat minibuses I drive at work. Looked into hiring something but that is stupid money.
Anyway no communication from garage today. To be honest I feel like giving up on the whole damn mess and scrap it.
