I have a dipstick but the tube isn't exactly 'big-bore'.

Thanks for the link, that's a lot of oil.

Hahaha, awesome!

This sounds like a messy but achievable task. How quickly do you need to push the new fluid in during the process?

Does any of this make any sense?

Does the disconnected shielded cable indicate anything?

The box in the last photo isn't mounted at all, just floating on the cable loom. I don't like the look of the tape on the shielded cable. Alarm? Carphone?

Thanks for all the help. I will be pulling the door-cards anyway to service the handles so will have a look for in-door amps. I'll also have a look for the sub.

Cheers.

Ok, thanks for the replies.
I would really like to flush the gearbox oil as I want this vehicle to be a long term keeper and want to make the most of its relative low mileage.
Is this a DIY-able job? (I am handy with the spanners and have access to a four post ramp)

A quick question due to lack of experience of these things. When trying to reverse up a steep incline I really have to rev the engine to get it to move.

Is this normal due to the size of engine and the weight of the vehicle?
Is it indicative of a need for new/more transmission fluid?
Is the reverse clutch within the autobox on its way out?

The vehicle is a 1996 model that has just clocked over 100k.

Cheers,

Smiler.

Success, I feel such a fool! I could have had it all finished by now. Instead I've now got to take daughter to dance class and other such domestic nonsense so will now be changing it in the dark. Hopefully I'll get chance to adjust the handbrake before the MoT I had booked for tomorrow morning...

Yes, many thanks for the links. In fact, thanks also for your thread in Retro-Rides that convinced me a P38 was a viable proposition and a risk worth taking. Hopefully my thread in there will help to back up your good work.

Good god, it's an older Land Rover product. Why am I pussy-footing around? I shall dig out my larges pry/crow bar and my heaviest tapping stick and have at it! Thanks.

The ones I got from ebay did (Dunlops).

Arse-hats!

Replacing the perished front air-springs today. The front drivers side lower pin has sheared off on trying to withdraw t. The olds springs have alloy base plates so it lloks like the alloy has corroded inside and gripped the pin. Any suggestions before I get the hack saw and tin of swear-words out?

Thanks for all the replies, I haven't a clue what I have fitted if they put HK badges on all of them. I don't remember seeing a sub in the boot, where would it be if it has one? I'll take some photos later and post them up.

Cheers,

Smiler.

Hello,

Sorry for the lame post but my shiny new (21yr old) 1996 Range Rover has it's original cassette deck and a CD multi-changer (minus cartridge thanks to the cockwomble who sold it to me) which isn't impressing the wife and kids. It has Harmon Kardon speakers fitted, does this mean it has the uprated sound system? If so, does this mean that there are issues with imply fitting a replacement head unit?

Thanks for any help,

Smiler.

Worth a shot, cheers.

Erm, I haven't been banned from the other site (yet), am I still allowed in? Or is it a prerequisite?

Awesome, thanks for all of the help and advice. This forum appears to be a goldmine of genuine useful information. Thanks.

ok, cheers. Hoping to have a look in the next day or so.

Cheers, I will attack it tomorrow after work. Glad the gears light is normal, guessing the return to neutral message isn't though, or does it mean low range neutral? I had just put it straight into low range drive.

I am planning on a gearbox oil change regardless.

I have downloaded a RAVE zipfile but it doesn't seem to work amazingly well so may look for another one.

I need to do this to all four of my doors as they are all stiff. Is there a preferred supplier for the cam kits? What kind of money are they?

Mine has later L322 wheels fitted and the bolts have smaller heads.

However, if I don't need to remove the wheels then I could have got them done tonight after all! How hard is it to do in the dark by torch light?

The dash symbol I believe is the transfer box warning light and the display says to select neutral. It might be the battery getting a bit low causing voltage issues. Or it could be a sieazed low-range motor or switch due to lack of use (been stood for 4 years and looking at the lack of dents, never been off road).
