While crossing a pothole my reservoir split and sprayed hot coolant all over my engine bay. It was all rather dramatic and alarming. I’ve since replaced it and bled the coolant system. This time I ordered a spare just to keep in the vehicle as the failed one didn’t even make it two years.

Separately, I got my spare engine out of storage. It’s now in my garage ready to be torn down.

Jetwashed it yesterday, noticed the rear bumper trim bits were bulging out with mud so I pulled them off and jetwashed them clean again.
It seems that the metalwork underneath is red, which was unexpected. Is that normal or have I bought a convincin respray?

The top bolts are missing (possibly because the rear mudflaps have ripped off) so one of them flapped loose on the way to work today, which was worrying until I worked it out.

Separated my extra transfer case and transmission so they'd fit in the back of my rover. These had also been in storage along with my extra engine (see my last post). A local transmission shop took them off my hands for free.

Using an engine hoist I lifted the transfer case up while hitting the mating point with a sledge and the spindle slowly slid out.

With the impeller removed the transmission is very light but I wouldn't be surprised if the transfer case weighs more than the engine.

Transfer case weighs 75kgs. That is without the brake drum.

When I did Vogue's inlet manifold gasket I fitted temp sensor ----- the temp gauge only went up past blue section of gauge ------ well that annoyed me so ended up replacing sensor with Rover MG sensor ---- now it's working correctly--- I'm sure I'm not only one who had this issue ---- part from britpart was problem ---- new one from eBay ---- odd that

Got my repaired keyfob back from "second-remote-repairs" on UK Ebay. Recommended by our super-mod I think. Two Brownie points, Richard.
Nice new case and batteries and more importantly, it works after syncing. I am now back with two fobs!
@ £24.99 is a good deal. Leave it as a watch item and it drops to £22.50.

I would like the other toe rag, Fobfix, to get their comeuppance. Charged me £50 and failed to fix it.

I unearthed my beauty and took her out of the underground garage where spent the last two harsh winter months.
Moved her to an intermediate location in our workshop and from there this week to the garage close to home where I hope I can find some spare hour every week to start putting the fricking thing together, I want to start using it and drive it a LOT.
Will need huge help in the times to come, I have forgotten how to put back together half of the things I took apart couple years ago ...

Dave, thanks for this post - I have just been in touch with Jon, to arrange the repair of a bag of assorted bits after I tried to repair an old fob. The buttons had stopped working when the rubber covers came out and the tiny little spacers, which press down on the fob switches, got lost. I was having to use a biro to open and close the car.

I bought a new fob, but I am sending the above one to Jon so that I can also have two working fobs !!!

Removed the wheels and tyres from one of the VSE’s so I can drop them off for a refurb tomorrow. Also ordered another set of Cross Climates SUV’s to go on it when the wheels come back.

Pierre, he did a good job on mine. Jon Dean in Biggleswade, @ a very reasonable price.
I sync'd it by putting it into the door lock and I then pressed close then open. It sync'd immediately. I am one happy bunny.

I've known for awhile that my vehicle's engine was in need of a head gasket replacement. I took the long route and have been slowly (that is to say mostly ignoring) rebuilding a spare engine properly while also ignoring the steadily worsening head gasket on my daily driver. Unfortunately it's gotten so bad that tomorrow I'll be replacing the water pump and doing all the o-rings and gaskets that come in a P38 head gasket kit. Well, the spark plugs and air filter too - but no more than that! I'm hoping I can get away with this quick and dirty method long enough to get my project engine finished.

The other day my girlfriend gave me a long look while commenting on how nice and presentable a 4 Runner looked ... I say F*** that.

What you meant was you rented a bloody huge garage, with a house attached.

Glad for you!

Completely behind on my head gasket job but at least I got my spare engine almost fully torn down.

Replaced the muffler the other evening along with the accompanying hangers. Unfortunately that cocked the RHR silencer such that it now catches on the tire and makes a bit of a grinding sound.
