but I would like to try and start dispelling the myth of unreliability, EAS is crap and whatever other stereotypes people want to throw out there.

My thoughts entirely. All cars have their faults but it seems that the P38 has got a bad rap for a couple of fairly minor, easily fixed, problems. With the number of us running LPG we could probably start to dispel a few myths there too.

Don't forget us oil burners. I'm on my 3rd engine in 4 years as it was cheaper in the end for an engine from a breakers than to get the FIP fixed! (1 x HG failure (terminal), FIP failure on number 2)Touchwood this engine is ok but I am planning a PM on the headgasket once the weather is better.
I like the forum as it is, the others are ok but lots of the photo's have vanished now. Smaller is always more personal and friendly before it goes corporate . I'm up for trips abroad, I did a round trip to Rochechouart last year, not as quick as my old XKR but just as comfortable, especially when I fixed the cruise control.

I'm up for long weekend meetups as well, and I'm gutted I missed your get togethers and fixups last year.

cheers,
Hoppy

I have air coming out of the compressor. No leaks that are showing on the soapy spray test.
I need wise sages advice now.

I'm going to get a compressor overhaul kit, valve block o ring kit (if they still do them) and desiccant dryer kit. Is there anything else I might need to do these jobs? I might as well now I'm at this point! Changing the air bags will be next, the car came with 3 spares, just need a front one.

I may be pee-ing up the wrong tree but if air is leaving the compressor then I'm guessing that the air tank is being filled. I can't hear air coming out of the valve block. I did depressurise it using EAS unlock. That would have me believe that it could be either a faulty inlet valve or the exhaust valve. Or am I completely wrong? Has anyone got any ideas please?

My generic OBD II cable (usb) works with EAS unlock - just set it to com port 5

I have just checked the air lines and no bubbles appearing from anywhere. The compressor is working. I have to go shopping now so I'll get back to it later.

I'll check the air output from the compressor with my finger later. The car has settled right to the stops overnight, 50ish mm height on all sensors now. But at least the oil leak has stopped!

It never had a sub when I bought it. But I did have a gear box "swapped over" by an independant and only realised once I'd had my latest engine fitted last year when the garage asked me when I'd swapped the gear box out! Wouldn't have happened if I'd had a nano and had all the serials.

Thanks Gilbertd - I'll ask you if I need it and thanks for the kind offer. I'll order a new core temp sensor and fit that. I'm getting very quick at getting the dash trim apart these days!

Hahahaha so true! The more love you give them, the more they demand. There must be a point on the lines where it equalises!

Anyway, I finally found out what my head unit is, it's not a Clarion it is an Alpine XQD101550LNF, cd unit in the boot (u/s) and no sub. Does this have amps in the doors or directly driven by the head unit?

EAS v3 is still free, download from Sourceforge EAS v3

Will do, cheers :-)

Well I fixed my leaking oil cooler today! I had to move the airbox out of the way so I suspect that when I moved it I must have done something to the air drying unit without noticing it. I started the car up and suspension was on the lowest, I left it on normal setting. Left the door open and went inside for 15 mins thinking the air tank would be full when I came back. Nope nothing. Went for a very slow and uncomfortable drive with nano attached no faults showing. When I got home the compressor was too hot to touch so I guess that is working! Dark now but will get the soapy solution on it tomorrow when it's light and try and chase this down.

These cars are physic as I thought that I'd buy a full EAS o ring kit and do a full service. The car obviously picked up these thoughts and decided to help me along!

Thanks Gilbertd. I was planning to get into the doors this weekend but in true P38 fashion.... my suspension dropped itself to the bump stops today and won't recover. No errors in the system either.....

On nano my temp shows as -38.8. I'm sure that it wasn't -38 in my car hahahaha. Also that little sensor in the cubby isn't spinning so I'm guessing that it's goosed as well.

Thanks guys. I hope this helps.

My plan is to go touchscreen for satnav/radio (dab & fm)/phone/ maybe a reversing camera. I was originally going to do a carputer but tablets got so much better! Like the joying one Marty did (when funds allow) but if I can slowly do prep work for wiring, transformers etc then I'll start to purchase the kit.

OK so after reading all your sage advice above here is where I am.

I don't know if I need a head unit and mine is the other Clarion that can't be modded. I investigated that previously.
Is a head unit a techy word for the new radio? (I'm telecom's not ICE, it's Practical Sportsbikes for me not Max Power I'm afraid hahaha)
I have no sub that I know of only door speakers
I will have to get behind the door cards to see what's there

Hope that all makes sense

Hi all,

I've read up on Marty's and others on other forums but you all seem to have the Carlos Fandango HK or premium systems whereas I only have the Clarion with the iso connectors on the back and a u/s cd player in the boot. If I install an android tablet do I need an aftermarket DSP or similar between the tablet & speakers? I don't think I've seen a tablet setup in a non premium system :-)

I'm not shy of using a soldering iron or creating / modding wiring looms but I think with my bargain basement affair it might be an RCA <=> ISO plug adaptation.
Does anyone have any ideas please or am I on a wild goose chase?

Thanks OB I have that now - I'll have a read over night.
thanks so far guys

John Bishop has a black RR. I've seen him in Knutsford. Before I got mine and could knew there were different types of RR hahaha

Ahhhh that's where that lot is. I'll have a look tomorrow when the neighbours are out so my chugging doesn't annoy them too much! I'll take readings as well and up date you

Did my heater core sensor a few months back. Book symbol on display when car got up to temperature but no other symptoms. Book symbol went off if I turned car off and back on. Book symbol would only come back if I let the car cool down for a couple of hours and then restart it.

I had no heater problems though. Just the book symbol.

As Orangebean says, the sensor is right under left side of drivers dash footwell. Clipped onto the Inlet pipe of the heater core. If you have big shovel hands, you may need the assistance of a small child. Lol.

I'm shovel handed hahahaha.

Have you checked with Nano to see what temp it's reporting?

I have found the engine coolant temperature screen, but haven't seen anything for cabin temp sensor yet. Where is that then?

Hi OB,

I have a nanocom, not the most intuitive but it didn't break the bank. I'll order a new heater coolant temp sensor this week. I get plenty of heat and then I get an icy blast. I found that currently I leave the passenger side on 26-28/HI and it stays toasty in this cold weather.

I did have a leaking core o ring many years ago and fixed that by tightening the screw back up. Thanks for the info

Ok I have accidentally found it searching for HEVAC bulbs, BTR 0909
