Have you got a picture of the installed nav screen, as it sounds different to the factory unit installed in later P38s... the layer ones have a LR part number on the screen rather than VDO Dayton.
Just google vdo dayton mm5000 and thats the screen i have just with a philips badge on it instead.

Have a look at this link. It's about using the sat nav head to display a reverse camera, but the conversion's the same
Yeah i know that could work. However, im talking about getting rid of the unit that supplies the power and video to the screen in the first place, and using it as a standalone screen. Just want to confirm if it might work. I suspect it will but forewarned is forearmed.
i spliced into my radio on my 2000 p38 at the head unit and added a 3.5mm jack. Did it the basic way of utilising the cd changer but nevertheless, works perfect. just have to have a cd in the changer to fool it into thinking audio is playing. Could plug what i liked into it then. You considered doing it?
So, in the the vogue, there's all sorts of aftermarket stuff that would have been top dollar when installed. It's all a bit passed it's sell by date now.
The navigation system is by VDO Dayton. Seperate unit in the boot (vdo dayton pc5000) hooked up to a screen in the centre above the HEVAC. The screen is branded philips but is a VDO Daytom mm5000 (currently available on ebay for £19 so i've seen). Fits absolutely spot on where the factory sat nav screen would be.
The system all powers up but i don't have a sat nav disc and if i did, it would'nt be much cop as a sat nav. i prefer google maps. Anyway, i also have the external video box that plugs into the system for connecting external video sources (vdo dayton mi5000). This wasn't hooked up when i got the car but i've followed the wiring diagram but can't get it to work. perhaps the multimedia box is broke and thats why it wasn't connected. There's also been a bit of wire chopping gone on and it's a right old mess in there. Got screens in the back on a seperate system with switching relays for video source and all sorts.
I digress
My question is..........Can i rip out the sat nav module and hot wire the cable going to the monitor so i can directly hook up an external video feed. Lets say an android box or raspberry pi etc. No audio, i'll run that seperate into the radio. Literally just a video feed. I've found the wiring diagram for the 16pin connector that goes into the back of the screen and someones done the donkey work of identifying pins. Does anyone here have AV knowledge to confirm i can do what i'm on about?
The link is here. You'll have to get google to translate the page from polish. http://www.lightsound.com.pl/vdo-dayton-mm50005001-podlaczenie-sprawdzenie-opis-wtyczka/
Many thanks.
Back from MOT. Failed. baaaayy.
Blow on exhaust right at the y branch of the 2 cat pipes which is buggering the emissions test. Can't get it off cause the rest of the pipe unions are rusted and will snap. Down to the magic exhaust man tomorrow to make new bits and sort it.
Also failed on wiper blade. lol.
Nevermind. Just chopped the end of the pipe,re-seated it and that's nailed it.
well i'll be darned!
What size is the O Ring and collect for the top of the air dryer? 8mm??
Leaking like a good un!
Mission complete!
The crotchet hook was a worthwhile investment as the old o rings did need a bit of popping out..
The new o-rings are, in my opinion, ever so slightly bigger. And i mean ever so slightly, but this might make a difference from what was in there.. Pipe did indeed have 2 indents on it where the old o-rings were so i cut a couple of mm from the end with a new stanley blade and gently deburred the end with a bit of 320 sand paper. I found the pencil sharpener was gonna chop into the pipe too much so i didn't use it. Perhps that was just the pencil sharpener i was using though.
Job was dead easy for anyone else that looks this topic up. Took 20 mins all-in including re-pressurizing.
Hope that's problem solved. Either way it was leaking from there so it wanted doing.

Leave it in. Once the car is down to access height, push the collet and pipe in, then while holding the collet in, pull the pipe out (you might need to wiggle it about a bit). Then just pull the collet out with long nosed pliers so you pull it out straight. RAVE says to remove the old O rings with a crochet hook (not something most of us have in the bottom of the toolbox) but a bit of bent copper wire does the job or anything else as long as it is softer than the valve block so you don't scratch the bore that the O ring sits in. A bit of Fairy liquid or vaseline on the O rings and pop them in followed by the collet. If you look at the air line you will probably see a slight groove where the old O rings were bearing on it, that will give a potential leak even with new O rings so trim a mm or so off the end and chamfer the end of the pipe with a pencil sharpener. More Fairy liquid on the end of the pipe and push it all the way into the hole. With no pressure there, it may try to come out again once pressure is behind it so push it fully in and then pull the collet out so it locks the pipe in, then start her up and let the pressure build. Check if you still have a leak with a squirt of Fairy liquid and water.
From the above you will realise that EAS work involves you to have children (to supply the pencil sharpener) and a missus who is into craft type things and housework (to supply the crochet hook and Fairy liquid).
Nice one. All sounds good.
Just been down the town and purchased a crotchet hook whilst waiting for a reply. £1.35 from Boyes. lol. Got 2 kids but the pencil sharpener always seems to be missing when it's homework time. I don't have any fairy so it will have to be Asda's Mulled fruits washing up liquid.
Lets see what happens!!!!
Got both O-rings now so we're good to go.
One question i forgot to ask is, Do i have to take the eas block out of the housing, or can i just do it in situe? Didn't really want to disturb the other airlines.
Ta :-)
This sounds like a right blast! I once put a full new hood on a peugeot 205 cj junior cabriolet by myself and it was a nightmare. Much better with a team effort. This bash happen often?????

Partly off subject but I recently bought another Grand Voyager. I'm in Yorkshire, the seller was in Derby, I only went to view because my son was going to London that day so could drop me off en-route, and I could catch the train back if I didn't buy. I sussed the misfiring was due to the jetwashed plug leads (nice electo-storm display peaking under the partly closed bonnet), that it needed a drivers side front wheel bearing and that the heater zone control was stuck to defrost due to broken teeth on the heater box.. I paid half the asking price which was already half the going rate and nursed it home like that, next day had it all running perfectly because I already had the parts to chuck on it from another car lol.
Simon
I bought the new vogue on a bit of a whim that i could sort the parasitic drain.
Turns out that it's a small leak from the eas block and it kept waking the BECM up all the time and draining the battery. The bloke thought it was something else and has just been draining and recharging the battery making it weaker to the point where running the abs pump on startup was draining 3v from the battery and only just being able to start the car. I'm waiting for the O ring from Landrover so i can fix the air leak. Until then, i just removed the EAS delay timer relay from under the passenger seat and replaced it with a standard 4 pin 30a relay. No more self level after you lock it up so no battery drain. New battery on car and hey presto. All's good. Just standard service stuff to do now.

Railway station is more important than you might think. I bought a Merc for my partner and got a really good deal as it was on eBay with a location in darkest Wales miles from the nearest railway station. Didn't bother me because I just hired a trailer for the day and went and picked it up on that (cheaper than it would have cost in fuel to drive it back) but from what the seller was saying, the location had put a few people off.
If it isn't mint and needs a bit of work, you might as well swap a few bits over. As long as it has an exhaust on it (and you don't take the pictures showing the stainless one), nobody will expect to see anything other than a standard system. I still reckon if you put it on eBay with a start price of £1500 then you might be pleasantly surprised, decent ones, or at least ones that can be made decent with a bit of elbow grease rather than money, are going up in value.
Good advice. Watch this space and we'll see what happens.
I've been all over the country for cars. distance doesnt bother me. Just hop on the train. 9 times out of 10 youll get a bargain because everyone else is too lazy to go. lol
I have a box of spares in the garage and i don't know much about them. Reckon you might be able to tell me what they are? There's definately some lpg stuff, including full injector setup, lpg modules, a doughnut tank and perhaps some heater stuff.
Thanks

Sounds to me like you should be trying to flog it to your father in law for £3k......
I think it depends a lot of the colour, where it is and how you advertise it. You'll see some ads with crappy phone pictures taken at night and an ad full of speeling mistaks that still manage to fetch £2k. With a decently worded ad and some nice photos, a 2000 on LPG should be going for £2.5k and up. The colour is what people see first and if you are near to a railway station so someone can get to you easily that all helps.
lol Father in law stuck with his heap now as he'll never get close to what he paid for it.
I'm literally 2 mins walk from a train station. Never thought of that but it's a really good point to put in an ad.
It's certainly by no means a mint car so i couldn't ask 2.5k. Perhaps 1500 which leaves plenty of room for someone to spend cash on it if they so wish.
I thought about the exhaust and wondered if it's worth swapping it onto the new car? Quite a nice looking one with twin pipes either side.
Thanks

Yes, no separate inline fuel filter on a Thor petrol - it's just a filter screen built into the pump itself.
Thanks.
Investigate the injectors it is then. Mind you, i've filled up on gas now so it's sorted. out of sight out of mind. lol
So the old one is going in for an MOT tomorrow before i stick it up for sale. Should pass ney bother.
Am i best off with ebay or the classifieds and what should i be asking? It doesn't owe me much.
2000 W reg 4.6 LPG in Alveston Red. Lighstone beige leather interior with red trim, red carpets. Interior good, wear in usual places.
Twin tailpipe stainless exhaust.
Good Rims.
Good tyres and new spare.
Clock says 240,000 but it had the engined changed many years back. So its done around 120k on engine.
Headlining great except for sunroof which is naff so i just leave it open.
Have all paperwork for the engine change and a stack about 3 inch high of receipts and service history going back to around 2003. absolute stacks.
Had all oils and filters and rear brakes done 6 months ago. 2 weeks ago had rear hub oil seal, track rod assembly and front pads done.
Bit of rust on front bonnet tip and lower tailgate
lol. this is sounding like an ad. im just after an idea of what i should be asking. £1200???

Welcome to the board.
Sounds like someone saw your FIL coming!
I think I can safely say I'm not near Middlesbrough, but wished P38's were the same price!
I think he bought it from a garage.
When he first got it, he was telling all about it being supercharged and a vogue. lmfao. Had to break the news that A: no supercharger on a diesel and B: They didn't make a Vogue diesel. It's had bits tinkered with to make it look like a vogue, even down to the satnav. I think i really pissed him off when i told him that it's a BMW engine.

Welcome and Cheers
Sounds good mate. Think i'm good for the nanocom at the moment, fingers crossed.
Where abouts you at? I'm actually in Redcar.
by the way, is that confirmed that theres no fuel filter and i can take it back to the shop?
injectors out and cleaned then?
Gilbertd wrote:
Injector cleaner might do the job but if it's been run mostly on LPG then chances are the petrol injectors are getting a bit gummed up. Mine runs a single point so switches to gas as soon as it's started so uses virtually no petrol (I've still got petrol in the tank bought in September last year) and until I took the injectors out and gave them a good clean it ran like a dog.
Injectors in the dishwasher then?
