Ok, my Air Springs are arriving in the next day or so.
I will do one side at a time.
I have been reading up on how to replace them and it seems easy enough but I am reading conflicting methods.
Set eas to normal height.
Disable eas with opening the boot etc.
Put axle on stand ?
Jack up the chassis to full height.
Disconnect airline.
Remove retaining clips.
Remove bottom pin.
Some dont mention putting the axle on stands, what difference will this make.
Does the above sound right or is there anything missing.
Off topic but this is a pub.
On the way home after a nice day spent with friends I see an arsheole in my rear view hurtling at about a ton in a 50kmph zone so I moved across out the way knowing it wasn't good and sure enough he flips his car into another on the opposite side of the road . Then another wanker whizzes past me followed by the police.
As soon as the first car flipped an unmarked police car was there in a second coming from the other way so I can only imagine he'd been radioed ahead. Poor family with children in the car that got hit.
200 meters further up the road they caught the second car and we watched them remove 6 youths and pummel them to the floor .
More than likely joyriders, its always them that survive and ruin other peoples day.
Looking at doing a service on the gearbox.
Any recommendations on a pump to transfer the oil into the gearbox ?
My car has certainly been keeping me busy this month with one thing and another.
Ive been getting slightly erratic idling on start up. On cold it idles at around 1 notch over the 1k then reduces to around 1 notch below the 1k but it will fluctuate ever so slightly up & down. I can also feel there is something not quite right through the vibration of the car. After a drive it all seems a lot better but still an ever so slight fluctuation.
I have just removed and cleaned all the sparks and they were actually all tip top condition.
I have just read the stepper motor maybe a possibility?
Although Im sure I need to change my front airbag suspension as they are still originals on a 99 and the fact that they are on bump stops most of the time in the morning taking 10 mins to fill or even if I just pop to the shops and leave the EAS on normal I will come back to it dropped to the bump stops.
However I have an oddity.
If I leave the car with the EAS on high then the problem of it dropping to the bump stops doesnt seem to happen and it will stay up for a few days.
Why would this happen. If I have holes its going to escape, the difference between normal and high wouldnt make a huge difference to how long it stays up surely.
The part number ALR8547 has been superseded about 3 times but I think this is the latest BHK720020.
Thought I'd try resolve the common water in the spare wheel problem though its only intermittent with my car.
I cant believe the prices of the seal are £70 plus for a bit of rubber, sod that.
Is drilling a hole in the spare wheel floor the only other alternative ?
Dragging this topic over from the other side.
I have recently developed a chirping squeal. It not permanent and generally lasts for 10 mins, maybe until the engine is warm and disappears. It sounds like its coming from the front wheel area, I originally thought the L/H but with both windows open it could be anywhere under the front. It usually starts at around 30mph, if I accelerate its louder but then if I remove the gas it goes again, so its definitely worse at acceleration.
I have removed the front propshaft , the shaft feels solid and I drove the car without it on and its still chirping.
I have also just replaced the calipers , pads & carriers as I had a stuck Pin so just did an overhaul as I originally thought that may have been causing the problem.
Tested the wheel for bearing wobble and it seems fine.
I have just read that the serpentine tensioner bearings can cause a squeal until the engine is hot but as I only get the squeal whilst driving Im not sure about that one.
Sorry for posting this here wasnt sure where else to ask in the pub.
Does anyone (Gilbertd) know of a reputable garage in Lyon or someone able to collect my Mrs car from Lyon and bring it to Dijon.
It has a burnt out clutch and is currently at a garage in Lyon where she broke down but as usual they are now trying to rip us off so I'd rather get it back to Dijon.
I cant use my P38 at the moment otherwise I would of course.
Cheers.
How do I test to see if the accumulator or pump is working. Should the pump make a noise or vibrate.
Thanks for the invite Gilbertd.
It was very quiet on the other side and as you have helped me through the years I thought I'd follow.
Originally from Christchurch Dorset moved to Dijon -France 18 months ago and brought the P38 with.Paying 3 x the insurance I was in the Uk but I just cant give it up and I hate left hand drives.
