From what I've seen, they have a green boot badge, centre dash speaker, sat nav and chrome interior door lock surrounds amongst other varying details. The one on ebay has none of that.

That one doesn't seem to have the speaker on the dash or the Piano Black or Gopping Marble effect trim. I'd say no.

I think it probably is actually.
The 1st batch of VSE's had the individual letters for the tailgate badge rather than the rare and desirable (!) gold on green one piece badge. The gopping (!) trim and audio enhancements etc were on the later batches.
This model VSE was pretty much a line HSE, but with brown seats and a bit more wood...

Looks a bit odd to me. The seats and door armrests appear to be a non-standard colour, they aren't light stone or dog turd brown. It almost looks like it was originally light stone and someone has dyed them, even the trims on the ends of the seat armrests don't match. The wood doesn't look like it matches either. It may just be the photos but the wood on the doors looks darker than that above the glovebox and different again to the wood around the window switchpack, even the ashtray cover looks to be a different wood to that around it.

Hard to tell as the lighting in the photos is all over the place. Probably smartphone not camera pictures. But some of the wood, especially on the centre console, does look more like cheap hydrodip rather than proper RR stuff.

I see that there are some repatriated Japanese cars on E-Bay at the moment. Generally £7,000 ± a bit. Often wondered if such are an acceptable way to get a low mileage, un-got at, car without UK climate damage issues. A bit expensive compared to getting a potentially good one nice again but if it gets you 50,000 + miles purely on a normal service schedule a £1,000 premium may be worth it.

My only knowledge of Japanese imports is on the motorcycle side back in the day when it was a fashionable way to get some of the harder to find and unique models. Folks usually found it turned in to a nightmare once the new to me bling had worn off. Nothing that I ever wanted to touch with a barge, let alone the pole!

My daughter had a Jap import Toyota MR2 Roadster until someone ran into the back of it and wrote it off. Speedo in kms so that had to be changed when imported and a few other odd bits of spec. I notice from the ETM in RAVE that the radio is different but a Jap radio tunes a different part of the band so chances are that will have had to be changed too. I'm not so sure they are worth the premium in all honesty. Low mileage but having lived somewhere hot means that things like air springs will have perished with age rather than mileage so you could find just as much needs doing as a car that has lived here all it's life with twice the mileage.

I figured another £1,000 (ish) to get one ready for UK roads and UK climate. Tyres, air springs, brake flexi hoses, other rubbery suspects and speedo. Radio not an issue for me as I'd do the tablet in the dash mod. Everything coming undone as it should being a major attraction when doing work.
This last episode of back trouble (still on stand up jobs and light duties after three weeks) has made me seriously think about how much under car and similar work I should do in future. Still having problems coming to terms with 63 not being the new 23.

I'm sure I can unload the Bristol project for rather more than enough to cover the expense so pretty cost neutral in the end.

Don't they do the registration for you for £7k? Over 10 years old so wouldn't need an IVA test, only an MoT and a lot of testers wouldn't be too fussed about a speedo in kms so it would be dead easy to register one.

I had a km speedo for years in my Fiat. Various MOT testers ignored it and just put the "mileage" down for the test using the Km number. I did swap the head and fog/reversing lights over, I didn't fancy an artic up the chuff.
I'd be tempted by a Jap import having seen a few programs on their second hand market, but I don't need another one :)

My Fiat Coupe was a 1994 LHD which was a year earlier than any RHD ones imported to the UK. I got a letter of conformity from the DVA and it all went smoothly after that. No inspection necessary, I just had to confirm that I had change the lights and speedo. I guess I the Speedo was a work in progress :)

The fun part was driving it on British Forces Germany plates while in the UK. :)

That £800 engine rebuild from some place in Sheffield and new Vasily pan gaskets make it pretty desirable :)
