Booked the p38 into my local indy dealer to get the transfer box changed. Earliest they can do it is May 10th; which is 10 weeks !
She says they have never been so busy. Her theory is that owners have lots of spare cash that they haven't spent on holidays and they are spending it on their Landrovers. It is mostly a rural community where I take it and owners are farmers and agricultural workers, not affected so much by the lockdown. Will try and find somewhere else in the meantime.

My temp gauge has become intermittent, it'll read fine one minute then drop to the bottom of the scale, then recover and read low, then go back up again for a while before dropping again. Cleaned all the contacts between the sensor and the BeCM, checked continuity on the wire, checked the ground then connected a meter to the sensor. One minute it gave 186 Ohms, then 378, then open circuit, then back to whatever resistance it felt like so it's duff. Genuine article is available but only from LR and not cheap.
Finished putting the L322 back together for it’s MOT tomorrow and collected the P38 wheels from refurb before fitting the new tyres.

eBay MG Rover sensor same part number-----MEK 000020
Got a 4.6 HSE scrapper sorted for roverviews and also got him a DSE at end of the month as owner quit on the stalling -- disco I sold to DSE owner has proved itself so far
Checked out the MG Rover sensor only to find it is a 4 pin jobbie suggesting it will work with a Thor that has both sensors in one unit, it isn't compatible with a GEMS which only has a 2 pin connection. Googled the GEMS part number (AMR5929) and came up with this page https://alleuro.com/Parts/Genuine-Land-Rover/AMR5929 which says it supersedes to a BMW part number. Googled that and found I can get one from Amazon by Tuesday https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bosch-0280130026-Temperature-Sensor/dp/B001CO2VU0. Looks to be identical except it isn't green coloured so I'll find out if it really is the same on Tuesday.
Having changed the plugs for a set of Champion I had lying around, a couple of weeks ago, I sourced and fitted NGKs this weekend.
Back to starting on first turn and no stumbling. I reckon the Champs had managed around 60km!

Alleuro got it wrong. New sensor arrived, checked that the plug fitted straight on (it did), took the old one out (which, much to my surprise, just unscrewed rather than putting up a fight) and noted new one was longer but poking a screwdriver down the hole meant there was plenty of room for it, but then noticed the thread. Same diameter but a much coarser thread so it won't screw in. Put the old one back and have just been out in the car and the temperature gauge seems to now be working. I doubt it will work for long though.
The gems engine is set to run leaner I think --- got smaller injectors and lambda sensors That's just my opinion as Thor got 440(green) injectors (same as my old Volvo 940 300hp) And different lambda sensors 🤔
Thor has different lambda sensors as the OBD2 standard that became mandatory from 2000 requires sensors that give a 0-1V output. The Titania sensors used on a GEMS are 5-0V sensors so don't meet the standard. I strongly suspect the need to be fully OBD 2 compliant was the main reason why they changed from the Lucas Sagem Generic Engine Management System (GEMS) over to the off-the-shelf Bosch Motronic (as used on numerous other cars) which was already compliant rather than a complete revamp of GEMS. Nothing to do with the fuelling, more a case of being able to continue selling it. As various parts of the casting machining had to be changed to accept Bosch sensors instead of Lucas ones, at the same time they took the opportunity to alter a number of other things. The intake bunch of bananas has the affect of increasing the intake tract length so improving bottom end power and many of the tappings in the block changed from Imperial UNC to metric.
Almost done with my head gaskets and water pump replacement. Gaskets had failed on the outer edges of cylinders1,2,7, and 8. I wasn’t able to locate the exact source of the coolant leak but it was definitely the water pump itself that was leaking. The water pump may have been original based on the receipt records. Basically all that’s left now is the crank pulley, belt, fan, and reinstall the radiator.
Took the time to do an emissions delete on the SAI heads. Hoping a 5 ohm resister on the hurricane fan will confuse the ECU enough not to throw an error code.

I have just ordered a snorkel (don't ask why, I just fancied it) and I have also just taken delivery of a diesel cylinder head.
I have a new BMW diesel block that I want to build up. Not sure if the head is early or late. The later ones have an extra stud so I might need to drill and tap it. I have a set of new pistons and rings and a used crankshaft off another engine. I am short of a new camshaft and valve springs. I also would like to fit new valve seats.
Dropped another 4.5L of ATF out of my gearbox after letting it sit for another week... think that's about 9L that's come out now. I think I'll need to go any buy another 5L of ATF before I fill it tomorrow.
Meanwhile, in another part of the car.... I think I saw a post recently about the availability of Marty/Sloth's RF key fob filters, but they're showing as 'out of stock' on the website. Can anyone remember that post, or know what the latest is? I have the trim panel off, so I thought I might as well 'future proof' the car and fit one.
What did I do today? Drove it and got it up to 415,145 on the clock after a quick delivery trip to the outskirts of Paris and back. Strictly speaking it was yesterday and today though.

We took Rachel for a nice Sunday afternoon drive over a local gravel pass. Total distance covered was around 250km with around 50km being gravel road.

I live in Pretoria, South Africa. We have our problems here, but it is a beautiful country with wonderful weather and I doubt I'd choose to live elsewhere.
