What made you swap it for a P38?

Simple, EAS. I got fed up with the headlights pointing skyward with a trailer on it, I changed the springs for stiffer ones on the back which improved that but made the ride terrible without a trailer and too much of the EAS had been removed to make putting it back viable. I needed something that could tow a fully loaded 3.5 tonne trailer and could also be used as an everyday car. I also wanted something that wasn't dissolving around me, I don't mind rebuilding mechanical bits but my welding skills are crap. Bought a Ford Exploder and used it once on a towing trip and put it up for sale the moment I got back, terrible thing to tow with and only plated for 2.8 tonnes. Had a Disco at work and it was too agricultural to use as an everyday car, so a Range Rover it had to be. Figured that if they are good enough for the Queen, they should be good enough for me.

The ford explorer with the plastic intake?

I was tempted at a 1998 red model with a 4.0 v6 IIRC it was not the nicest thing to drive..

Not the nicest thing to drive without a trailer but with it was horrible. The suspension is far too soft and with the towbar attached to the body and the only thing connecting the body with the wheels were springs and dampers resembling jelly, it wallowed around all over the place. At the time I had arranged to borrow the LSE that I subsequently bought but it broke down on the owner so I needed something rapidly, like in 3 days time, and the Explorer was the right price and local. The breakdown on the LSE allowed me to knock a few quid off the already cheap deal I'd negotiated, so I fixed it on his driveway and drove it home.....

Yeah i an issue with taking a roundabout at "p38 speed" and the rear of the Ford kicked out like an old hotrod, slightly embarrassing as I was only 1/4 a mile from the dealer and he saw me smoking the tyres around it..

My RRC had dampers full of porridge, a set of police spec springs helped!

Here's my old girl. She's getting there mechanically.

Body work will be next. One side is not so sun burnt compared to the other. Not sure what to do for best.

Have a go at re lacquer or vinyl wrap or maybe just swap the doors....

Thank you. It was just freshly polished for my wedding in July/August.

After that I always used Gentlemonkeys wet wipes. They are really good. I don't know if they are available everywhere though. I can highly recommend them!

Nice ride!
How is that engine going comparing to the 'standard' Thor? Anything interesting worth sharing?

Unfortunately, I can't answer that. I have never driven a Thor. Mine is a GEMS as a base. In any case, the car is now more lively than sluggish and much more powerful than before. V8D says something about 300 hp. I can't say whether that's true. When the last "problems" are solved, I will take some measurements and post them here.
Something else about V8D. I was not really satisfied with Rob's performance and service. There were two faults with the engine which were of course only noticed here in Germany during assembly. He was then suddenly no longer available. Very unfortunate.

Hello leolito,
I did a little test today.

0-100km/h approx. 8 sec.

An GEMS needs according to data sheet 9,9sec.
A Thor should do it in 10.4 sec.
