I'd like to come too depending on the date.

I'd like someone to help me find where my exhaust manifold leak noise is coming from! I've replaced it multiple times but haven't managed to solve it yet. Apart from that I'm up for helping anyone else.

I'd be interested, I definitely need a new head-lining but the piggy bank may not stretch to it by then. Would still be good to come over though and lend a hand to se how it's done for when I can afford to do mine.

OK, re headlinings...

I've had a look, and on eBay, AS Trim do LR/RR headlining material, plus 2 cans of spray adhesive for £69.99. I've dropped them an email to their 'sales' address to see if they would offer a bulk buy discount, for material to do 6/7 headlinings (as a rough guide - if the price is right, would you be up for it too Smiler?) and adhesive.

I figure the least they can do is say no...

Depending on what they come back with, then I will also have a look at the Martrim page, and email them to see if they would entertain a group purchase.

I know 6/7/8 headlinings might sound a lot to do in 2 days, but if i strip the cards out of my 2 restoration P38's, then including the other one I already have, will mean I could possibly have 3 cards out and possibly partly stripped before we even start - which would speed things up and mean we could be stripping a headlining out of one vehicle, and then putting a completed one in fairly quickly.

I'm going to go with Black on my P38, and whatever is closest to the factory original colour on my other 2 P38's, is anyone else wanting a different colour, other than standard? I am guessing that the more we get of one colour fabric, the easier it might be to get a discount - but if people want different things, then I can at least give them a fairer idea of what we would be after, so that way I can get the wheels in motion.

I'd love to go black on mine, but I need to keep it as close to factory as I can- so lightstone for me.
There's also the issue of clips. Never having done a P38 liner before, I've no idea how many plastic fit trees etc will be damaged removing the old liner. Same goes for the top seat belt bolt covers which, when I've taken them off in the past, 50% of them break.
Worth buying a bag of spares?

Martrim do a kit at £60 http://www.martrim.co.uk/catalogue/landrover-headlining-kit.html which comes with 3 tins of glue and you do need all three. I only used 2 tins on mine and there are a couple of areas where it needed more. There's no plastic trees involved in the headlining, it's all held in place by the pillar trims and the sunvisors, interior lights, etc that are screwed the the roof through the headlining. Didn't break anything when taking mine out. Showed this thread to Dina and told her that headlinings were the main thing and her comment was ,"No problem, we are experts at that now".

I used this on mine - 150cm wide, 3m length, and comes with 3 tins of adhesive. I didn't use all three cans and now need to put a bit more on one area at the back of mine, so more is definitely better when it comes to the glue!

That's sounding like a viable option. I take it that the presence of a sunroof doesn't overly complicate matters? (the sliding sunroof panel also needs re-trimming unsurprisingly).

A good chance to give all the slidy lifty bits of the sunroof a clean and lube and your drains a clean out. That's what I intend doing with mine anyway.
It's an opportunity rather than a complication :)

Excellent, mine won't currently set anyway so an ideal opportunity. I do have a small twin wire plug floating around behind the front interior roof light with nowhere apparent to plug it in...

I don't know if I'll still have my 38 when the camp comes round. Mind you, mine only needs a couple of rocker cover gaskets. I may have a 320 or a 322 by then. But I may still come down for the crack. As I am not up to doing much, I could sit there and sniff the lovely glue that comes with the headlinings all day :o))))

Hadn't thought about that. We did mine outside and even then the fumes from the glue left us both a bit light headed. Doing 5 or 6 on the trot and there'd be no need for beer......

I have a solution to the sunroof sagging.

When the headlining is out... remove the pesky blind! I have on my last four cars, which have for one reason or another, all needed the head lining coming down. I hate it being closed and never do - so didn't need or want it!

I don't want to do without. Sometimes with the afternoon sun (I said sometimes here in Holland) it just shines right behind my glasses and I'm happy to close it. Or on a well lit motorway at night with every 100 metres a lightpole flash---flash---flash.

OK - headlinings..

I've been in touch with both Martrim and the other place on eBay that does the kits. I said that we would be looking for between 5 and 8 kits. One in Black (myself) and the rest (from what the general response has been) in the colour which is closest to what LR used to begin with.

I've had a reply from both suppliers, which I have copied/pasted below:

Martrim:

Hi Martin,
We can offer a discount, if you were to purchase all the kits together.
The standard price for a kit is £72, this includes material (3.5m), adhesive (3 tins) and delivery.

For reference:
5 kits would cost £360 individually or £294.20 if purchased together.
8 Kits would cost £576 individually or £452.40 if purchased together.
I can send you samples of all our Nylon headlining, this would help to match existing trim.
To do this I require a full delivery address, if this is of interest.

So - as a follow up for this, can I get some firm-ish idea as to who is definitely interested, and what colour you would be interested in, from both suppliers. Martrim have their colours listed on their website aswell.

I'll be going for either:
AS Trim:
1x Black Textured Nylon
2x Either Oatmeal, or Oyster Grey - depending on what looks closer to factory - I think Vanilla might be too light - but happy to go on a consensus!

Martim:
1x Black
2x Either Suede Beige, or Cashmere (probably Cashmere)

The factory colour from LR was slightly grey to start with and is listed as 'Mist' in the parts catalogues..

Well I'm not sure which colour the headlining is atm, because the Duchess is away for the weekend. But I'd be down for a new set :)
Suede seems tempting though, is that what you've got Sloth?

Also, is it time to propose a date? Personally I need to stay away from bank holiday weekends but seeing as the traffic would be horrible I hope that isn't too controversial?

One thing that we'll need to do is set up a "clean area" in the workshop as we can't rely on blazing sunshine like last time. Suggest we invest in a few tarps to put on the floor?

The messy part of doing the headlining is getting the old orange foam off the shell. I wirebrushed mine out side at the front of the house and we put the lining on in the back garden. You don't want to be sticking the new stuff on anywhere near the orange dust.
