Just starting on on the CVC's engine and before I knew much about suppliers from conversations on the forum I bought a blue bagged camshaft. Would you trust it or not?

I've got one surviving one, all the rest just shattered under the smallest pressure. I cut a small section out of one side of the channel at one end and slipped the clip out so at least have a sample to offer to a 3d printer.

They should locate into what the parts manual refers to as cupsacs. As you say if all else fails some adhesive would do the job. I'll have an ask around about 3d printing some.

Hi Dave, no the black rubbing strip on the outside, half way up the doors which has a very fragile set of black clips which slide in a channel on the back of the strip.

Does anyone know of a source for the black plastic clips that fix the rubbing strips? They seem to only come with a new strip rather than a separate part.

I agree with Richard. I've just taken the tank out of the CVC and it really was quite easy in spite of the rust on the carrier.

I didn't even know such a thing existed. Then did a search and there it was an ETM document.

Thanks Richard

Thank you Richard. Always a fount of knowledge.

Before the CVC goes to the body shop I wanted to raise the window which I had lowered so that I could still get access. I was going to power up one of the wires going to the motor but wondered if anyone knew which ones power up. The choice is Red/Yellow, Yellow/Blue, White/Grey and Green /Grey.
All other electrics are disconnected. Any other alternatives gratefully received.

Welcome Don,

I've found the same as you that other lesser sites are far from polite. I'm relatively new and have found everyone here very helpful.

Rob, I'd be happy to do a headlining get together as mine is virtually fully detached -much like the rest of the car!

I have put one or two bits under CVC update and will try and add a bit more soon.

Happy New Year to you all too!

Hi lpgc,

I was looking for a p38 and this was a pre production car issued to the press at the launch at Cliveden. It would not normally be worth doing as there is a lot of rust in the rear bodywork, unused for a long time and pretty sad altogether.
As so often happens I thought I would get it running and use it and it turned into a full nut and bolt job.
Everyone on here has been really helpful and it's much appreciated. What I am not looking forward to is the electronics which are not my area of expertise at all. So we'll see how it goes. It's keeping me out of mischief.

All the best for the New Year

Happy Christmas everyone from the CVC. Currently an empty shell but back on it's front feet and turning into a lightweight p38 as the rust falls away.

Gearbox and transfer case safely in the hands of Hardy Engineering.

Many thanks for this. Just what I need when the time comes to reconnect everything.

Thank you all.

Rob, I've added a few more views to your excellent video. Quite inspired!

Looks a much easier way to go.

Thanks Chris,

it's really the tool to get them in that's the problem or whether there is a way round it using something else.

I am about to "invest" in a hydraulic press to sort out the panhard rod bushes and the very distressed rear radius arm bushes and wondered if there is a work around for the LRT-64-001 as they don't seem to be available other than at mad prices. I don't have facilities to make anything on a lathe.

As practically everything is off the CVC now I would really like to get to the top of the chassis at the rear and can only think of separating the body and chassis. Is it too scary a job? The whole car is on a 4 post.

Absolutely agree with Morat. I put winter tyres on P's MX5 and even though we live at the top of a hill it sails up through snow and ice. The e38 on all weather tyres is nowhere near as sure footed.
I've used Tyreleaders, https://www.tyreleader.co.uk/, for the past few years and found them to be well priced and as Richard says the tyres seem to come from all over the place.

Thanks Richard, that's saved me a long journey.
Although not long by your standards!

Has anyone been to the Malvern autojumble before and found anything useful for P38s? It's coming up this Sunday.

Thanks

Dave
