Yeah the Y piece is another part on its own. Mine look ropey and the clamp to the mid section is going to need some loving/replacement, but its solid.

Ordered :) Hoping it doesn't sound too quiet compared to what I have bodged together now - or that little middle silencer might have to disappear in the future!

I presume that's the one you bought OB?

My mid to rear clamp has disintegrated and is now making all sorts of interesting noises... thankfully the o2 sensors came loose without a fight (ala red P38 and the gas axe fun), so the only thing that may need some love is the clamp on the end of the cat section.

He does have a job on the go too as well as making his webshop available, and is currently out of the country on work :)

Probably wasn't aware of the issue, I'm sure he'll look into it once he sees this.

Both of mine do it occasionally from various rear doors.

Best thing to use on jubilee clips if you are stuck using them is sockets - less chance of a) slipping off and stabbing something or b) chewing the head up. And you can use extensions to get at them, like in the case of the bottom hose to water pump.

Usually a 7mm, or 6mm on the odd one that clamps the air inlet pipe to the throttle body.

That's the clamp! And yeah - that's the same tool I have. Makes them so easy to use especially in awkward places.

50mm sounds about right! Thanks!

That's okay, thanks for the offer - I'll order a pipe at some point (when it next leaves a puddle, probably) and measure it up. When I know what CT clamp size to order I'll post it up.

I've heard people say bad things about CT clamps... I really don't know why. If you have the proper tools to remove/fit them, they're simple to use and they do not leak!

Bumping my own old thread for another similar request...

Any chance someone could measure the OD of the water pump hose? At the pump end - where its biggest. I can't get at it on the engine with my calipers. I will stick a new hose on so worst case is I'll order the hose and measure that when it turns up some time.

F*$king jubilee clips continue to piss me off and refuse to stop leaking. Sometimes I get a few days, sometimes a few weeks... I'm going to have to empty the coolant for the 439th time and put more CT clamps on - I just need to know what size to order :)

This is an advantage of silver... it can hide months worth of abuse. About the only thing it doesn't is bird shite!

I'd care more about keeping mine clean externally if the lacquer weren't already peeling so badly in places. Next year's problem...

Not bad looking!

I'd be quite interested to hear it - at some point I will have to replace my entire exhaust and it looks quite good.

Could I trouble you for a picture of it from the rear, if its not visible in the video?

Bring the tank to Marty's workshop, we'll build....ah shit. The disco is gone. We'll find something else and build a BBQ!

We'll bring the food if Miles can lend his culinary expertise ;)

I would love to see one of those rectifiers in person. With a load on it too, as they change intensity as the load increases/decreases.

I'm still not sure how you knock a rear silencer off without mangling the bumper? That's quite impressive.

I'd be willing to bet that's K Seal or some similar additive.

To be fair to it, I put it in the green one's original engine and it did stop it swallowing water. The rad cap looked exactly like that. Actually came across that rad cap on the weekend.

I think I'd personally feel a lot happier knowing that was no longer between me and potentially ending up in an accident...

It's easy really :)

I'm still running around with the one from Marty's 98 from summer camp, but as that's now missing an engine, and in fact pretty much everything from the engine bay, I think I'll be okay keeping it warm for a bit longer yet :) Must get around to rebuilding the couple I have floating about.

Haha :)

I have new mountings on my compressor and which ever way up I put them, I can at times hear the pump. Usually while stationary with the radio off. I've stopped worrying about it. I hear enough other strange noises.

My front bags are however leaking it seems. So I guess its time to pop the spares on.

Electric fan is still working well, though I think I probably have an 82 degree thermostat, which gives a bit more flexibility on the fan switch used than the genuine thermostats that open much later.

No real change to the fan - it just does its thing. My radiator started leaking from the top tank though. I would have loved to get the GEMS alloy one and tweak my plumbing to suit - as there is room to do so with no viscous fan. Unfortunately I don't have the time to do that the way I want (modifying the outlet spout etc), as I'm using it every day at the moment and I'm hopefully about to buy a house - so sticking tried and true Nissens is what I've stuck in there for now.

I noticed though... something looked a bit odd about the radiator I took out:

The timber is straight... following on from Mark's condenser reshaping - who knows how this one got like this.

Also took it as an opportunity to deal with a few other problem areas. Spout was leaking. Turns out it had no o-ring, but had what looked like a proper paper gasket. Another little oddity of its inception maybe? Has the o ring now, and a little bit of RTV for good measure...

And a lick of paint after some wire brush treatment. It is a bit pitted in places, mostly where it has been leaking, but the RTV will deal with that.

Who needs the AA?
