I ditched mine for a revotec fan after hearing the horror stories.
Thanks, I’ll try more enthusiastic right foot then and see how we get on!!!
Mad as: does the ECU know somehow then???
Richard: Does 300 miles to a take sound normal? I know you run LPG but thinking you must have done the odd full take of unleaded when you are out of LPG?
I had a crack in the flexi on the exhaust manifold which gave symptoms like you said. I couldn't see it until removed from the vehicle and bent open.
But i have a new tick on the other side now which I think is a push rod/tappet gap as only on idle/overrun and goes away with revs.
Hi all
I bought a new (used) caravan over the weekend and towed it 150 miles home. The car used a whole tank of unleaded to do the round trip (297 miles), sticking to speed limits etc. Is that normal? I've not towed with it far before.
I also found it sluggish on motorway hills (M1 from Bradford to midlands, so not exactly hilly!). Again, is that normal?
I've got a high-torque cam, magnecor leads, new (correct) plugs, new genuine maf, but everything else is standard, and engine runs well normally returning 16-20mpg unladen.
Caravan is 1500kg, twin axle...
Thanks all...
Will do, got a long trip to do first so hope it holds up.
Mmmmm, the sweet smell of hot coolant in the HVAC vents.
Am I looking at a leaking heater matrix?? Carpets not wet (there anyway!) yet.
I had some from bearmach on my L322. They were held in place with 3m tape. They were solid once fitted but didn’t work particularly well!
Maybe, the seller insisted it was for 4.0 or 4.6 though and it fits perfectly on mine other than the Thor specific pipe run on driver side. I could fit it but didn’t want to butcher.
It closes off the cooling area rather than underneath the entire engine.
The fixings are on chassis rails with two sides (included) that return down to the tray in line with the bottom of the radiator. Foam on the edge for a snug fit.
Hi, I bought a genuine undertray for my Thor but I think it’s for a gems as a cooler pipe is in the way. I’ve left it too long to return so wonder if anyone on here would like to buy it. It’s brand new genuine old stock. Part number KRB101040.
Retail is £175 plus vat however I’d be looking for £75 incl UK postage.
Very interesting read!
Anyway, my p38 is running lovely now! Smooth imperceptible change over, same or maybe more power on LPG, petrol isn’t lumpy any more after running on gas for a while.
Very please and we’ll worth finding someone who understood VSI1 even if they were half a tank of gas away!
Sounds like a good plan!
I do remember mine giving up on an off road trial but put it down to the leaks I discovered. Maybe I would have run out of air anyway !
Is this an upgrade or to mask other faults? I’ve only run out of air when I had a leak…..

Wouldn't like to say ---- heater matrix 🙄🙄
No not the matrix, the water is pouring in on the other side, against the firewall/bulkhead. Probably thru the pollen filter.
It’s a new (to me) lpg place that sorted me out.
I think the previous map was set when the vehicle had problems and was over compensating.
Sorted the problem. Was LPG map causing the Thor ecu to learn incorrectly which is why when disconnecting the battery for a long time or resetting adaptations sorted it for a short while.
I didn’t change the lambda sensors because i thought the readings were within spec.
My LPG service place gave the system a service and upgraded the firmware and create a new LPG map for me.
All well now!
Now onto the next issue. Went thru a car wash today (rare, as I usually DIY), and got wet shoes. Water pouring in drivers side bulkhead somewhere!
Wow, that explains their firesale on eBay then. They had complete crate engines for £999 for example! I bought a few genuine components for my P38 for britpart prices.
Shame to see a business drop like this.
for £80, i might just do them anyway. They are 21 years old after all!
Update, disconnected the battery for about 4 hours yesterday while i replaced some coolant hoses that had gone hard and weeping. After reconnect, engine ran really well on petrol. Did 2 x 15mile journeys both from cold.
Will see how it is today. Weird though.
Which are the up stream ones please?
What else could do this?
