I was fearing that…. Darn!

Better stick my spare in the boot!

My 2000 has developed a whine which changes pitch with revs. The sound emits from the speakers but does not change volume with the radio. It’s not there all the time but now I’ve heard it I can’t unhear it! With the radio powered off the sound is gone.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Yes I’ve done it. Easy 3 hour job with a 2 post lift.

I’m happy to advise if you have any queries

thanks. I've just got myself a pair off ebay. They came without the pad for the top of the mirror plastic, so I 3D printed some!

Hi all, can anyone recommend towing mirrors that fit well on a p38?

Thanks

It’s a great drive….

Last time I did it in a BMW 730d and needed only one fillup just south of Bordeaux!

No I don't, I drive because I love driving. Given the choice between a 3 hour flight or a 26 hour drive to visit the in-laws, I'll take the drive any day. Cheaper if there's 3 of us in the car too.

Sorry wrong choice of words from me…

And yes I love driving too. Looking forward to driving to the algarve sometime soon… (2022!)

Every weekend? I'm filling up about 3 times a week, sometimes 3 times a day!! Filled up 5 times in 24 hours a couple of weeks ago......

Yeah, but you drive for a living! I’m just dropping the wife to work and buying groceries!!!

The stations near me are still going but range from 52p (back of a farm) to 89.9p (BP). My only issue is range. At 200 odd miles, I seem to be filling up every weekend or more!!!

I removed the steering column which is a piece of cake to do. Just disconnect UJ by bulkhead and 6 bolts cabin side.

Then yes it’s plenum and windscreen wiper motor out the way and 6 bolts on bulkhead and on cabin side it’s 2 nuts opposite edges and 2 bolts in the middle under radio area.

It’s heavy so a helper is advised!

I removed a p38 dashboard yesterday. Surprisingly straightforward and I’d definitely do it again to sort heater matrix/blend valves than try to do it in situ.

Mainly to remove the engine and transmission from my doner.

I’ve done it too now actually. It was really easy. Only thing I forgot was the cradle that runs round the rear prop. Very easy off and back on.

Pulled the door cards off my 1999 Thor and found the amps where Richard suggested they would be. So that's a bugger. It's 3 months older than my 2000 Thor and another thing is different! Already found the latches to be incompatible!! Hope the steering wheel is as want to swap that out!

That explains why the sub from the 1999 wouldn't fit the socket on the 2000 car...

it's not latching at all now!!! Will put the old nearly broken one back on in the morning and sort a new replacement....

Thanks, I’ve cleaned all the old grease off the catch and added a couple of washers to the loop on the top tailgate and it’s just about latching now!!

I had a 8 year old 3.6 tdv8 (Ford) L322. In the 2 years I had it (25000 miles, i had to replace the auto box, entire engine, both turbos, radiator, intercooler, egrs, door seal, sat nav, tyres, brakes, suspension, all oils twice, (engine oil more)… the list goes on. Also depreciated by 50%!

That’s the last “new” Land Rover I shall ever buy!

thanks Richard, you're a great resource mate!

yes, it has DSP: None, DSP: Driver. I cant find any amp in the door though. Would it be tiny? I think i can trace the wires from all 3 speakers to the loom going through the flexi back to the car body too.

How do I tell if I have hard to work with Harmon Kardon amps or not and therefore whether changing the head unit will be easy or not.

Head unit is Alpine XQD101580LNF
Door tweeters day Harmon Kardon and backs of speakers do too.
Cant see anything in drivers door other than the Door Outstation.
There is a sub in the boot but it doesn’t work

Thanks
