I got a phone call from a mechanic who does some work for me from time to time, asking if I needed any spare parts. Anyway, the long and the short of it is that I drove the spare parts home, complete with a 12 month MOT (as you guys in the UK would understand it), everything working except the cruise, even the EAS works fine. Cost, (as is typical in this country) a case of beer. Paintwork is shot from sitting in the sun, but nice and straight, interior is good and complete.

Piece of 1/2” water pipe .....

When you go to start it, do you hit it straight away? I know with mine I’m in the habit of turning on the key and giving it a second or two to build pressure prior to hitting the starter. I have no idea if it makes a difference, just a habit.

Of course that doesn’t speak to your complete no start issue.

Yep, 21:30 Wednesday UK time, 06:30 AU time and of course Bolt time .........

Can someone post log in details please or are we running with the same as last time?

Did you check out the guys I mentioned in post 34?

I can lend you one to get you out of a hole.

+1 on Gilbertd’s recommendation too, I have bought a few things from him, good to deal with.

Good to see you.

I used a neodymium magnet on the screwdriver shaft.

No doubt you will repaint the truck to match the grille :)

I’d be happy for another round. Any interest in doing it this week? Say Wednesday evening UK time, Thursday morning for us?

Unfortunately it is pretty hard to cover all areas of the globe, unless we have chapter meetings, which I’m happy to do George, I.e. a separate catch up. The time proposed would be 4:30AM your time.

It will get better once the UK comes off DST and we go onto DST later in the year, then 9:30PM UK time will be 6:30AM Manila time.

@mad-as I picked up two MAFs from these guys. Good to deal with and happy to negotiate.

If it is a GEMS, perhaps looking for a couple of S/H ones as I understand the replacement ones, all from China, aren't all that good. I picked up a couple of S/H ones from a wrecker in Geelong, swapped them in and out to find that I they work OK, so they can sit on the spares shelf.

These fit up quite well.

Handles

Of course the point may have originally been around H&S for dim owners, i.e. less likely to burn themselves if the engine is cold. Just a thought.

All good then, many thanks.

Don't understand? Are you talking about long and short term fuel trims (LTFT and STFT)? 20 to 36 on the IACV is correct at idle but it should go up under acceleration as it opens up to give a cleaner pick up as you open the throttle.

No, the Long Term Adaptive Idle and Short Term Adaptive Idle.

A question for the knowledgeable out there on the IACV, 98MY GEMS 4.6. I note that mine sits at LTAI of 255 and STAI of 250, with the STAI very occasionally dropping to single digits whilst on the road (from looking a a nano recording file). The IACV position seems to sit somewhere between 20 and 36 at any given time.

The engine idles sweetly and is always spot on for RPM at idle. I note that the plug over the air adjustment screw is out, so I wonder if a PO has tweaked this for some reason and the system is compensating, or are these the sort of numbers you would expect to see?

Speaking of fuel flap releases (and not wanting to hijack the thread) I have seen reference to a “cable” that allows you to manually release the door. The cable located behind the RHS tail light access panel. Is this an after market thing, or after a particular MY? Asking as I don’t see anything there that would answer that description on mine.

Pierre,
Don't worry about searching for black self tappers - put stainless ones in. I'm always amazed how hard it is to remove a rusty screw from plastic. s/s on the other hand, no problem.
BTR4428 for the clips - breaker is the more likely option

I had to drill the heads off of mine and that is in a pretty benign environment from a rust perspective!

Download an app called Epoccam. It allows you to use your phone as a web cam linking it to your computer through WiFi. It works very well.

I guess not.
