Thanks guys,

Battery on removal was reading 4v!!! Fortunately seems to be taking charge and on last check was about 12v.

Will leave it on overnight and make do with this one until the car is running properly again.

Well finally a day when the weather makes half a sense to go out. Went to start it and nothing. Flat battery! Typical as I don’t have a battery charger or a spare battery. So trip to Halfords for one. (It wouldn’t jump, I tried) so hopefully tomorrow with a charged battery I will make some progress.

Just quickly it’s a 70ah battery installed on this since I got it. Much smaller then the tray it sits in. Should it be higher capacity one?

NOOO cut the red one or is the yellow one??? Its not bomb disposal, yes just pull the wire. Its what I did.

Lost sync then!

Better then mine, will not reset mine, replaced case and battery and nothing at all. Its now broken in the garden and Eleanor is doing her best to rock every think around. No way i am going under my p38 on axle stands in this wind to look at the rear diff and fit and remover prop-shafts.

If it is an auto then the gear selection indication by park, should light up when the BECM is activated.

When its dark outside and the car is locked, go out and see if pressing the buttons on the key cause the light to wake up. This means the BECM has received a code but doesn't know what to do with it. It could be a BECM fault or just requires syncing.

Excellent, its always a worry at first but we p38 owners will not be defeated!

If I can find the paper work I will let you know, They are BritPart though. Given some of the horror stories I am hearing about britpart I might splash out on a better set.

Here you go £31.40

If replacing them all get a new thermostat and the metal flex pipe if you can justify the extra expense. I have heard the metal pipe rusts and restricts the flow.

As per GordonJPC reply on another thread.....

Sticking that fuse in would put the transfer box in neutral, which would rule out the gearbox but not the transfer case and propshafts.

I doubt 115C would kill it, as hoses are at the top there should have been water still in the block. Imaging when the head gasket goes and water is replaced with oil, They can live after that too.

I have a full set of hoses to replace on mine as a precaution. £25 but haven't got round to fitting them as the knocking has taken it off the road for now.

Top right fuse on the drivers seat is the one I believe.

Yep thats what I was referring to it was't me whom posted it though. I don't post much on PH.

Found the link just by searching for 'LPG'.

I am on there and saw this early...

True point we don't actually need a new website I guess.

There is a tractor show on at Malvern Showground in February, mostly indoor. Includes commercial vehicles and may have some classics. Its about an hours drive for me so basically local.

Excellent nice to know they still crop up all over Europe, a 4.6 HSE in blue passed me on the M4 today while in my hire car. Felt envious of them in the comfort that is.

Just looked a we could register p38oc.org there are the usual .com and .co.uk but looks messy when you have a oc at the end. A quick google found a p38 owners club on BookFace but I couldn't find anything in particular.

With regard to shows, I would look at the agricultural shows not the big county ones but the smaller ones that we could in theory attend as part of the event. Also classic car events, were not quite classic yet but not far off. Silverstone has the Classic each year, plus there are countless motorsport events that allow club areas to be set aside.

Once mine is running again, hopefully tomorrow there are only a few things I would want to sort before being happy to show it.

I would be interested! Would save me either the £70 to have it pro printed or two or three ink cartridges and a few reams of paper.

Just an idea, Chris sent over his front diff to me, i fitted to the front but I have my old one here. Guessing its only a 2 pin, but as its a 4.6 V8 i know that it should be a 4pin unit on the rear. Could I fit this to the car for a few weeks to get it back on the road. Would save me a few quid hire cars etc.

Thanks would have forgotten the nuts on the transfer box when the rear prop is removed. Annoying as they were all new nuts on bolts on the rear prop! Might order several hundred when the online shops start posting again in the new year.

If I drive it though would the rear diff not be turning as a result of the rear wheels being dragged along? or am I being dumb? I am an Electronics engineer by trade, have an understanding of mechanicals.

On a side note I ordered all in stock items from LRDirect on the first working day after Christmas, paid next day delivery and its still not sent, I have cancelled it! V.Poor service for the second time. Island4x4 seem to be able to stock a bit more than them too.

What do people think, should i pop the front propshaft back on and drop the rear one off, jack the front up and run the car to see if its the transfer box?

Do you think its hub/diff related. Currently its still on stands at the back.

Damn the breakers have a 4.0l V8 which has the 2pin rear diff, I need the 4 pin. Looks like a call to Ashcroft on Tuesday. Will stip it down tomorrow and Monday, expecting it to be harder then the front.

Glad I have drummed up a few people into thinking. Might start slowing printing my own yes it is cheaper then buying it done but just wondered what people thought. Had Haynes done a book I would have spent £30 anyway.

OK, so got the back of the car in the air and ran the engine to get the rear wheels turning. The noise is still there so fault must be either transfer box, rear diff, rear hubs etc. I am uploading a video to youtube now (Slow Internet) of the fault, Breakers about 1 hour away have a full car in ready for stripping so will have to wait for parts until Tuesday at the earliest.
