Smashing. Thanks for that. Local scrappy has an 02 vogue. I'll see if i can get there before they shut and have a look at it.
Do i put fuse in and then turn ignition on to put box in neutral?
Finally got rid of the kids so me and the wife can go to ikea. Didnt get far when i noticed the heater was blowing cold all of a sudden. Turned on the diagnostic spp and temp was 115oC. Then lpg went off. Pulled straight over to be greeted by a steaming cloud rom the bonnet.
Discovered this.
Massive hole in the hose. Recovery on the way. Is it fuse 11 to put the gearbox in neutral?
Im hoping i pulled over in time. Will it live??????
Yeah on both my rear windows theres a factory fitted aerial. Just hidden behind the plastic loadspace trims. I still use those factory aerials for normal radio without issue.
I've got a Tartarini system. I have working software if you want it. I've uploaded it here if it helps you.
lol
The stick on window aerial that came with the usb DAB dongle is stuck on the rear passenger window. I popped the pillar trim off so i could stick the ground part to the metal. I ran the cable down the trim and under the carpets. It's pretty inconspicuous.
As Gilbert pointed out on my post, because it's on a side window it's going to be directional and suffer from signal loss. This appears to be very true and at best i had 2 green bars of signal. I changed to the roof aerial and can now get 4 bars on the same radio channel parked in the same spot. Alas, it's still not perfect though. There must be a solution as new cars have DAB and they seem to be ok. I know it depends on where you are but i've driven all over and suffered dropouts in major areas. I'm gonna have a look at some different DAB apps and see if that improves things. If not, an active aerial may be the solution. The internet way is great but it's a bit of a nuisance to pay to receive radio.
I think Marty has a problem with DAB reception. Since he's the resident techno boffin and is also having trouble, perhaps there isn't a solution yet.
Windscreen?
It's magnetic. It goes on the roof.
I see.
I know there's a couple of apps that you have to have the right usb for or it wont work. Perhaps reading between the lines, yours is one of them. Just buy a generic usb tuner and get your own app. I bought this one and then changed the aerial for a magnetic roof one.
As i say, i still suffer from a bit dodgy reception here and there so i tend to just stick the internet on and use the Radioplayer app. Works flawless then.
Says DAB+ in the description so does it not have the tuner built in?
Mine doesn't which is why i had to get the seperate usb dongle. You might just need the aerial.
Gilbert has one of these. I bought the same just with the different connector for my dongle on the end.
Looking good Rutland Rover.
Have you linked to which head unit you bought? It'll help others if they decide to do the same. After much googling and deliberation, I bought this one.
When i first thought about it, all i could find were a couple of tablet installs and the info on those was a bit sketchy with limited options for ones that would fit. I happened to stumble on Marty's post on another forum and that was the turning point. Be nice to write up the procedure and add it to Marty's Info DSP/Alpine Wiring Sticky.
Have you got working DAB? I have a usb tuner with this app and originally had a window aerial which gave a patchy reception. Gilbert pointed me to an external magnetic aerial which i fitted and although the signal strength is almost full, it still drops out now and then.
Happy New Year to everyone!
i misunderstood. I thought you wanted to begin your own owners club website whilst keeping the forum going on the side.
I'd say unreliable is the wrong word. A maintained p38 appears to be no more unreliable than any other car. What i would say is that due to the design and the complexity of some of the systems that were fairly new at the time, if you're not the diy type, the repair bill could be quite costly.
You wouldn't buy a Ferrari and expect to run and fix it on a shoe string budget. The price of the p38 has fallen more than enough for the average Joe to be able to afford some luxury motoring but without them factoring in that it was once a top of the range machine that still requires looking after.
P38 Unreliable? NO
P38 owner maintenance unreliable? Probably YES
This appears to be a rather comprehensive setup.
http://www.rangeroverp38.com Get google to translate it from the French and you're good to go.
p38ownersclub.co.uk sounds ok. A couple of paid sponsors for approved/reliable parts sellers on ebay and wot not and the running costs would be paid for too.
The cost of ink didn't seem to concern the previous owner of my car!
I've never used it as i use computers and tablets. Anyone want's it, it's yours for the cost of the stamp(s)
An interesting and humerous read.
i was approached and asked to join this forum and i'm pleased I was.
I'd liken this forum to a village with the other being a city. It's much easier to solve a problem and get the right knowledge with only a few cooks. Larger communities seem to have more monkeys than organ grinders.
Only in America could someone get a bee in their bonnet about people getting their free information for free elsewhere.
Nowt so queer as folk.
Thumbs up for Gilbert!
I did alot of googling trying to find a tablet that would fit perfectly in the sat nav hole. Just when i thought i'd done it, i found a thread on another forum with Marty discussing fitting a touchscreen head unit.
This is the route i went down a couple of months back and it's brilliant. Yes it's no longer factory, but it would only cost a couple of quid to put it back to rights if required. I've now got fully functioning modern touchscreen android with sat nav, radio, wifi, bluetooth and all the other bells and whistles. Just added Alexa voice control so i'm 100% wired for sound.
well done mate. You've also left the door open to upgrade her to the walnut trim next year!
The scrape might just be lacquer? Wet it. If it disappears when wet then you'll get away with just clearcoating it.
As OB says, the seat leather is an easy fix. I followed in his footsteps and bought dye from scuffmaster to re-do my beige steering wheel. Looks brand new.
£25+VAT. P38spares.co.uk sell the full set for £150
The general consensus will be stick to oem bushes. I went poly only because i have no tools for pressing bushes in and locally it was expensive to have that done. I read many discussions on Poly bushes with rather contrasting opinion. Some praise from the hilltops and others would have them cast out into space. I'm very happy with my install and i think i've achieved the air cushion ride that the car should have. Time will tell about the lifespan of them so I can't comment. Again, i only did poly's because of what it was going to cost me in garage labour to have bushes pressed. Just happens that it seems to have worked out well for me.
I'm no expert but i'd imagine you should replace both sides at the same time. You wouldn't just replace one shoe!
Get underneath with a bar and see if you have movements in bushes. Visually inspect for cracks and any other signs of wear. Check balljoints for movement. Jack both the front wheels up, hold the wheel at 9 and 3'oclock and try rocking it. That's how I found my worn track rod balljoint as the visual inspection looked ok.
There's many things that will play havoc with the steering. Wrong/worn tyres, wrong pressure, steering box alignment, tracking. Its a case of getting the basics right and then eliminating things one by one.
