I accidentally posted this on the electrical section so I thought I would post again on here.

Yes another irritation.

Only had my P38 for a number of weeks and all is going reasonably well. Converted back to air suspension and a handful of other little niggles sorted out. Just returned from a blast down a dual carriageway with all the windows open and the headlinIng has dropped from the sunroof backwards. I guess it was loose and with the wind flying about in the car it has surrendered to gravity!

Done a bit of reading and don't fancy having a go at this myself but quite happy to let an expert renew or refix as necessary.

I am based in the Dorking, Surrey area. Does anyone know of anyone who could sort this out for me?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for that guys.

Is it just a matter of sourcing a new microswitch and replacing it? I assume it is not repairable.

Are the microswitchs the same for both left and right hand doors?

Now I know these cars are full of electrical conundrums but this is a bit weird.

I was sitting having a nice relaxing cup of tea on the patio, P38 parked up about 20 foot away then I heard a strange double clicking noise, like two clicks one after the other. A short while later this happened again and then repeated every few minutes. On investigating, this noise which sounded like the central locking engaging or disengaging was coming from the car. I believe I can see a slight movement in the door buttons but it isn't locking and unlocking as I would've thought. I locked the car with the fob and that seemed to stop it.

Even stranger later , I started the car up and this occasional clicking continued with the engine running! How very strange. I had to go somewhere later this afternoon and the car behaved itself and this clicking didn't occur while driving.

Any ideas?

I am away for a few days but will be investigating when I return.

I’ve also been shopping and have a set of five Mondial wheels fitted with a set of grabberAT3s To bolt on.......

Super neat but not for me.......

The standard head unit gives a great sound so just a sat nav replacement would be good.

T5 box which is strong enough for all that torque if not abused too much.

Saying that. I’ve done many drag days and have run and 11.83 which is pretty good for the old RV8.

Anyone wanna buy a set of light guards?

Half said in jest!

This is £70 per panel so not far out. Unfortunately can't do till the 26th of this month but I'm happy to wait and put my mind at rest that this will be sorted. I just won't look at the corners :)

£280

Good news, A very sensible price for spraying the four wings. It is booked in to have this done.
I am happy to put some dome headed screws in the tailgate rivnuts.

No more ugly light guards!

Although looking on eBay you can get anodised stainless steel ones in various colours. They do a red which looks a bit pinkish in the colour but that might be better or possibly just black. Chrome I think with Sam out too much.

I still can't believe that the factory fitted guards require drilling holes in brand-new wings. It isn't a defender ffs.

That’s 12 chrome head bolts.

Not desirable......

you need to upload it somewhere else (onedrive, imgur or similar works) then get a link to it from the site you uploaded it to, then on here click the 5th button in the reply pane (image) and paste the link into the box that comes up afterwards. Leave all the text it adds and you should have a pic shown then when you post the reply.

Thank you. I’ll give it a try when I have a minute.

Back to the task in hand, I am going to visit my local body shop tomorrow morning and if his estimate for what is essentially repainting four wings and the rear tailgate is excessive, excessive for the car then I will under duress put them back on.

That will really, really annoy me!

How do you put a photograph up?

Thanks for the replies guys.

I never knew that they could be factory fitted and I wouldn’t be surprised if these were. All the fixings were rusty and once I had started on one I had to remove them all leaving rivnuts in the bodywork and leaving four of the blighters with the threaded shanks of the Allan headed capscrews drilled off as they had rusted solid!

I was so angry earlier! I can’t believe anyone would pay to have this done to these cars. I anticipated some sort of clips but sadly not. Looks like I’ll be paying a visit to my local friendly body shop and I wouldn’t be surprised if the cost is somewhere up to £1000. What a right royal fuck up!

I would have left them on But to be honest, I think they look bloody awful and I always had the intention of removing them.

Such a shame as the original paintwork is pretty immaculate.

Oh well.

By the way, the colour is Rioja red.

I recently purchased my P38 which was entirely standard apart from some aftermarket light guards fitted front and rear. They will have to go!

I'm just in the process of removing one and have found that to fit them you have to drill holes in the bodywork! What the bejeezus is wrong with people!

I don't want the guards but I also don't want these captive rivets sticking out the sides of my wings. What is the fix apart from sending it to the body shop, having the holes filled and the wings sprayed? Is there something else laterally thinking that can be done?

The original sat nav has never worked and before I dig deep in to the reasons why, I wondered if anyone has fitted an alternative?

I found this on the web.

Just ordered a set of 5 Grabber AT3s. Not everyone's choice but for me the car is more of a winter car with the odd green lane thrown in.
I will be picking them up fitted to a refurbished set of Mondial wheels on Tuesday they have goodr reviews, better in the wet than I thought.

Just seen this thread. I sold my 5.5 RV8 engined na TVR Chimaera earlier this year.

400bhp on Surrey Rolling Road. Super reliable, loads of track days, sprints and drag days, (11.83 seconds).

Of course this all comes at a price but to keep costs sensible, I built the engine, ( and everything else).
