I think when the car was newer you were not able to remove the key until it was in park...but this is 20 years later.

That may be another nanny state NAS only things, like only being able to take it out of Park when you have the brakes on. I don't think a European one ever had that 'feature'.

Interesting. I've never had a vehicle that was designed to allow you to remove the key unless it was in park. I have had 3 GM vehicles where the ignition key slot was so worn that you could remove the key anytime. My last Suburban's was so worn out that you didn't even need the key in it to turn it on. To it's credit, I had 425,000km on it (Richard, I know for you this is barely broken in!).

I had a Saab once with the ignition on the centre console and you could only take the key out if it was in neutral (I think), and a lot of Japanese cars have a button you have to push to allow you to turn the key fully off before it can be removed. But I've never known any other car that had any form of interlock, you turn the key off and take it out, irrespective of what gear it is in. I know most US cars with a manual gearbox won't let you start the car unless your foot is on the clutch though.

My Aunt had a Saab 9-3 cabrio and you could only pull the key out of that if it was locked in reverse..

I have got a Volvo V60 and there is no ignition key switch as such. You just need to have the key on you in your pocket.
To start it needs to be in park and also have your foot on the footbrake.
It has an electric handbrake, that I don't like, which is also interlocked with the footbrake.

Thinking about it, the Saab I had was a 900 (old style) and that had to be in reverse before the key would come out. Although it was a LHD, US spec car so that might explain it.

That 'Saab in reverse' thing was standard in the UK market - at least on both of the old 900s we owned once. Nice cars those - they were built like tanks. My wife had a bump at upper town speeds in one when she was 6 months pregnant. Not her fault. The car was written off, but she was completely fine.

I had a 1973 96 v4 that had column change and had to be in reverse to remove key also had freewheel so could drive it like the 2 strokes ---- great car

Well to be honest, what with the title being “What Have You Done To Your Rover Today” one would expect comments about things one has done to their Rover...... the thread drift was getting a bit far off the path there and where it would end up could be along the lines of “certainly there’s nowt like a good poached albatross egg when you visit Botswana’.....
So to answer your question as to who cares, I do.... I’d prefer not to go flipping through pages of non relevant to the topic “bolloxology” if you don’t mind, but that’s just me. If I’m in the minority, then fair enough, we are all entitled to our opinions. Then again, why bother putting titles on posts? Let’s just all have a rumble and murmur about everything and anything and refrain from post titles...

I can understand how someone of Irish decent must be feeling a bit miffed today. Never mind, a couple of large Jamesons or Bushmills is all you need. Threads, particularly this one, do drift, but then get back on track.

I've nothing to report other than having driven it about 20 miles. I've got jobs that I want to do but other things keep getting in the way, but will report on them when I get around to doing them. I now fully appreciate people that say that once they've retired they wonder how they ever found time to go to work.

Busy day today ---- put heavy duty links on rear roll bar on vogue Then rear seals on 300tdi Then took drivers door of consul MK2 for reskin tomorrow & then can get back to 4.6 HSE body strip

??? A P38 doesn't have a rear anti-roll bar. Unless it was an accessory maybe. I know you could get one for the Disco 1, but never seen one on a P38.

After weeks of paranoia regarding the heat and noise of my EAS Compressor, I finally swapped the washers around "concave down" for the bottom and Concave up for the top washers.

Weirdly my washers were flat, a good beating with a ball peen hammer got a nice concave in them..

And finally I can't hear the bastard thing, which may or may not be a good thing..

But with no leaks in the system and the pressure side holding over 100psi after a week of sitting i'd say my system is in good health.. #

So my paranoia isn't needed, maybe...

Also managed to top up with fuel, as I was pumping in the LPG the tank clicked off at £15 turned out the forecourts tank was bloody empty!

With the cars petrol tank on the wrong side of the red I managed to fire her up on GAS and drive a few miles to an ESSO and put in £60 of super plus, which gave me just over 1/2 a tank...

Not too bad.

You really want to avoid running the petrol tank that low on a gas vehicle, running it dry is a good way to finish the petrol pump off if luck isn't on your side.
