BPSM, I think I have to pass on Sunday :(
Orangebean has sent me a replacement valve block and I'd really like to fit it in daylight. I'm busy on Saturday.
I hope you don't mind, but I think you're probably not at the stage of needing the nanocom just yet?
Anyway, let me know if you want to meet up one evening next week.
Cheers,
Morat
HAH very good :)
I've ordered new Dessicant/dryer refurb bits for my 13 month old air dryer and a set of O rings from the supplier you PMd. Hopefully I'll be able to get this done over the next few days. At least it'll give me a good excuse to polish my collets :D
I'll be looking carefully at the dessicant as it was new last year and should be the first place to show contamination. I think...
Anyway thanks! and I'll be careful with it. I really don't need two knackered valve blocks!
All the best
Very shiny indeed. Yes please!!
Let me know what I owe you (I seem to be saying that a lot recently) :(
It might be Sunday? Mrs Morat is planning something...
Ah, I didn't see you offer! I'd much rather take the lazy option :) But if you've got one that just needs seals I'd be happy to buy it off you. I don't fancy buying one from ebay that might have loads wrong with it.
I think I'll get hold of a second hand one and rebuild that before swapping. I can't really have the car off the road for long.
The joy never ends...
But thanks for the thorough post-mortem and heads up, Marty. The failure was sudden whatever the cause. It was, subjectively, no louder than the ABS pump when it was fine. Then, at the end of a three hour drive, it activated just as we parked up and it was suddenly loud.
Valve block rebuild eh? TO THE GOOGLES!!!11111
I'm not going to trust the EAS until it is sorted :(
Why don't you message Marty and buy a kit?
Or even better, book a trip to Swindon. He has done loads of these now and I guarantee you it's worth while having someone who knows what they are doing on this job.
The Duchess has an Audi heater core, new radiator and new blend motors so if you want to compare heaters/nanocom readings we can do that sometime.
I've never called her that before... not sure I'm going to try :)
1hr left to get home. I'm in the passenger seat now
Aircon perfect
Heated seat on
EAS pumped up
All thanks to Marty 😀
Oh and she's getting 》3 miles per litre on the motorway so that's encouraging too....
Guys! I'm not complaining about the sound of the pump . I'm bloody glad I've got one that runs!
No I'm just saying that now I can hear it I'm agreeing with OB that it might be running too much and that is what lead to the previous one failing.
It isn't loud it's just noticeable
Not right now I'm not 😀 but we could sort another meeting if you like?
Yes, I think you are right. She stayed up at wading height overnight pretty well but needed a very brief top up to stop the top eas light flashing on startup. It settled in about 5s. That seems acceptable to me but I'll have to measure the drop.
The last pump was inaudible from inside the cabin but the new one can be heard and it does seem to run quite a bit while moving.
I tried comparing with Ashley's p38 this afternoon but he has aftermarket exhausts and the rumble masks the pump. Probably.
Or maybe I'm just not used to hearing the pump run when moving. Dunno! But it seems sensible to check
The Duchess has risen!
Marty is on his w@ay back.
Thank you all and safe trip Marty 😀
Whatever floats your boat hahaha 😀
The pump will be changed. Marty is en route as i type and earning even more heroism points.
I'm blown away by the support from everyone. Thank you. You have made the impossible happen.
Morat
You two are both utterly fantastic. Being stuck in Dorset isn't exactly the Sahara but we've got a 6 year who is expecting us to pick him up on Saturday.
Hopefully I can get rolling either with the new pump or the valves (or both) thanks to you guys.
My theory is that the pump which has been inaudible up to now has been working too hard due to a leak or a valve block problem. The Duchess is never normally parked on level ground so I haven't been taking notice of the height in the morning.
I'll test as soon as I can but mine host won't be amused if I delay today's shooting while I delve under the car! I'll get on it as soon as we finish but I'm pretty sure we will be able to get back home wiyh the new parts and do a full diagnosis and fix.
Thank you!!
Bit of a shitty trip 😣
The EAS compressor started sounding rattly and then the EAS just got lower and lower. No faults, and I haven't got the 35mph warning yet.
I'm guessing it is the pump, but how do I check it? I'm going to have to move fast to get a replacement if it's the fault.
Thanks!
Morat
