Looks like fun! Stainby isn't that far from me :o(

I await your inspection with interest

Well done!

Excellent!!!! I've waited a long two years to see the result of your labours. She looks gorgeous. I remember when I first saw the thread about her being for sale over on the dark side. You must be a proud man, John.
I don't know if you've had the ceramic coating before but it is something I can highly recommend. I had mine severely detailed 18 months ago with the ceramic as an extra. To this day, it still looks stunning even when dirty. The shine is permanently there. When it gets washed by my tame little man (who is not even allowed to wear his watch), it looks in showroom condition. Bests money I spent and it wasn't that expensive. I paid an all-in cash price of £300. Not bad for such a large car. Her little DS3 was £220.

Don't forget everyone is away.

I do hope, as in previous years, there are photos!

Is the action happening Saturday or Sunday or both days please? I was just about to ask where Marty's workshop was when I remembered it is Grand National day this week and sorry, after Cheltenham, it is very important to me.

The Range Rover P38. A definite future classic. Good ones in my opinion will only increase in value and desirability.
Rob.

and that comment makes me wish I had never sold my last one!! It was a cracking motor. The debate was whether to spend £15k on a Sport or £5k on doing a makeover on the 38.

Is anyone staying in a hotel and which one etc? I am debating whether to pop down just to be nosy.

I'm in a quandary. Her Ladyship has booked me for the Sunday so I'm a bit kippered :( I've been quiet on the subject due to complete cowardice.
But if this is the date that works for the majority then do please go ahead.

Remind her, Morat, it's a once a year trip and it will save you loads of time not spent on the driveway with the car jacked up.

It is also on springs 😢

Two cars ago, I swopped my trusty 38 for a L322. Massive mistake!! Eleven months later I p/x'd it for the silver 38 that Gilbert had off me. I lost a lot of money on that 322 :o(, about £4k.
If anything electrical could go wrong on it, it did. In the end, I used to have to take fuse 18 out at night so the thing would start the next day. Never felt a bit of guilt trading it in to a dealer.

As a new member of the P38 clan, I find these threads both interesting and scary.

I received only one Key/fob with my 2000 P38. It only works like a normal key. It starts the truck and will lock and unlock by turning in the door lock.

Even with a new battery the red light never comes on when you press lock or unlock. Does not lock or unlock remotely- even when I walk right up to the antenna/receiver. Does not sync up following the method outlined in the owners manual or what I have read in many threads.

So could be a problem with the internal contacts as I have seen in a few Youtube videos.

I assume that while I have no starting issues at the moment- I need to plan for the future.

I know of someone parting out a P38 and has asked what parts I would like to buy. I do not know the year- but if it is a Thor like mine- should I buy the door lock and all of the internal bits with the hope the parts may be in good condition. At least I may be able to refurbish and have one the shelf.

Any Youtube's showing refurbishment?

I am very happy to hear that there may be a solution coming to program new keys now that -at least in the US- LR is not offering new key FOBs to current P38 owners. How would that work if I only have my single key - I assume if new keys can eventually be programmed - the programmer would need my key to read/scan.

While there are a few videos floating around of showing how to move the guts of your FOB into a new cover--- and a few showing how to repair broken internal contacts-- should I take the chance of pulling my only fob apart and try to diagnose the lack of red light going on?

Lucky for me I never have used the remotes on any of my cars/trucks to lock or unlock so I am not in the habit or even think about it. I rarely ever lock my cars manually either.

Until I read many "cannot start" threads, I was under the impression that if I never used my FOB to remotely lock/unlock- or manually lock/unlock then the condition of my FOB is not or could not be a problem. I figured that my ignition switch is the active part and the key was passive when it comes to starting the truck if I never locked or unlocked the doors.

Now I am not very clear on this. So new to the P38--- I do not know what I do not know.

Silly question ............. have you checked the batteries in the fob?

So your next job is to get it off those bloody springs and back onto air??

Welcome, Tanis ........ I'm up at Louth, a thoroughly more civilised town :o)

We got home this morning after catching the Rotterdam-Hull overnight ferry. We certainly saw lots of white stuff on the way home. We left Sicily last Friday morning, then overnighted at Altamura on the SE coast. Bloody cold but ok (has snowed the last three days there). Then up to just below Rimini at Fano. Bloody freezing here. Then round to Bergamo for two nights where we spent NYE at her sisters. Again cold but ok. New Years Day saw us meandering up the side of Lake Garda in brilliant sunshine. We reached the top of the Brenner Pass and crossed into Austria. We went from sunshine into fog and heavy snow in a matter of 200 yards!! Really spooky. Headed down towards Innsbruck and across to the west and it was hard going for an old man like me.Snowed or sleeted most of the way. We stopped at a town called Fussen and during the night it snowed really heavy but fortunately the hotel had an underground car park which I was grateful for. Snow the next morning but by the time we reached Bastogne in Belgium it had cleared. The run up to Rotterdam was easy, just cold.
On the way down we had used the Mont Blanc tunnel, and having stayed the night near Nantua, it had snowed heavily around the tunnel and beyond the previous day so we were lucky there.

We've certainly had a Merry Xmas!!! Mount Etna decided to have a hissy fit Monday and then at 3am this morning, she had another 'turn' which damaged buildings and injured several people. We sit on our balcony looking at her!! It has even made the BBC news webpage!

I've had four but bought this baby 18 months ago ( Sport with the Stormer bodykit ). I still sometimes regret selling my last 38 as it was a damned good one. I believe Gilberts pal is still driving around in it.

What's lethal about it? I love cruise control, in my experience the car just plods along.

I love cruise control too. Have you ever used Active Cruise Control?? You set the speed and off you go. Only, if you start catching something up, it slows you down! The idea is you won't run up the arse of the vehicle in front. That's all well and good but if you're catching up quickly, the braking is quite violent. Also, if you are trying to pull out to overtake, the car passing you goes by. You pull out but if you're too close, it will brake you down which doesn't make you popular with cars now behind you. I've now decided the UK motorways are too busy to use it. The only time I use it is when there is nothing about.

Bet it didn’t take 10 days though, lol, that’s not a bad mpg .

On reflection, a V8 returning those figures whilst running at 75-80 for miles on end isn't bad. But I was expecting better seeing as it was constant motorway. By the way, it took us three and a half days.
The bummer is I can't use cruise control!! This model has ACC (active cruise control) and it's bloody lethal!! I asked the garage to disconnect it earlier this year when they did repairs to the front end but they couldn't as it would throw a fault.
