A tip for you .... when you're ready to order the new mirror, take the old one off and check the plug. There are 6 or 4 pin plugs (or is it 6 or 8?). Saves ordering the wrong one. Here is the link for Emmotts if you need it. I ordered my mirror at 3pm and it was with me the next day!

It is a really simple job to change the mirror assembly. Even I managed it!! Two or three screws depending on the mirror. I got a complete mirror assembly from Emmotts of Colne for £35.

I read your post on RR.net and wondered if one of the boys would direct you here lol. I think no matter what goes wrong with your car, there is someone here that will put you right!! Wait until LPGC comes along and he'll see you right about an installation. He does it for a living.

Does that mean the next Summer Camp is at your new house??

Last time I was in deep snow in 2010, I had a oil burner. We went out and had a wonderful time. Rescued loads of cars with no fuss at all. 38s are very impressive in the snow.

I'm with Hastings, OB. Phoned them up and it's booked in for Monday assuming they can get the parts in. Sorry Chris, but I'm putting it through the insurance and no way am I trawling breakers yards. I'm just so pissed because I know it's my fault and after doing a 70 miles round trip in shite conditions, I had switched off.

I left home at 745am to take the other half to a hospital appointment in Lincoln. There had been NO gritting done around here and the old girl was in her element! All the way to Lincoln and back without a mishap. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I dropped her home, which is two miles from me. As I drove home, I approached a right angled bend which I take slowly in good weather let alone snow. I slowed to 15-20mph, turned the steering wheel to the right and went straight on :(. Straight into a fukking hedge!! Only the sodding hedge had a big post in the middle of it. Took it straight to our local repair shop and the quote is for £2700.43. Mine has the 'Stormer' body kit. Well, it did have. Luckily they said the damage is all superficial but I am truly gutted.

Just by reading and chatting, I have learnt loads from here, Rutland even if I don't have a P38 anymore. I never learnt ONE thing over there.

JMC, I remember you starting the restoration of this car over on ToadLand. As i recall the last one left in the US.. Now, I reckon there will be a few on here who haven't seen the amount of work you have put into this car and I haven't seen any pictures of it for a long time.
Is there any chance of you doing a recap with before and after pictures?

Disc ordered and paid for ......................... cheers OB!! £24.99 is a darned sight better than £170

If it is only a $1000, that's cheap!! When I enquired it was round £900 which is a lot more than $1000. That was for the full exhaust from the end of the manifolds through.

Just mailed them, cheers, OB

As I am meandering down to Sicily in the next couple of months, SWMBO offered to pay for a new disc for me as quite often my disc has me 'going off road'. So I looked at the site my system told me to go to for updates ...................... then rang LR at Market Rasen. It would seem the latest disc made for my car is 2011-12 and the cost of this 6 year old disc??? 170 sodding quid!!! After 2012 LR changed over to SCDs and then USBs so basically they don't make a disc anymore.
Now I am far from mean but fukk that, no way am I paying £170 for something that is 6 yrs old .............. it will still have me going through fields, I expect.
Now over 18 months ago, I am sure someone on here said they had a disc for free, just the postage, but for the life of me I can't remember who. I know I sent my details but it just never materialised. Does that person still have a disc for sale a darned sight cheaper than £170?

I've never even managed to get banned once :o(( I'm becoming too much of a goody two shoes in my old age!

and is it?? Maybe not cos I think you're twiddling with it instead of reporting back.

Not far off the mark there, Rcutler ................... a poor battery can cause all kinds of problems on a 38!! Problems you wouldn't associate with the battery.

Yeah, but mine is an oil burning V8. Teehee. That's me covered.

Do you have a location? Always handy to know for when the questions start coming.

That was my thought, Gilbert. Seems a coincidence. But not being tecky enough, I didn't like to say anything.

Oi, there is nothing wrong with an oil burner! Mine gave me 32mpg coming down to London yesterday! A bit better than the 18-19 i used to get with the Beast.

You didn't mention that your oil burner isn't a P38 though Shep :)

You know what, I still wonder if I did the right thing. Gilbert did a few jobs on The Beast and apparently the guy that bought it is thrilled. I knew the lump was good in it and I have thought more than once I could have spent a couple of grand on it and had a damned good motor. This RRS cost me £15k and is a stunning motor but I could have spent a third of that for just as good a motor.
